What to do...wait for '08 M3 or get 335i?

I just got my 330i in February, so selling it right away would lead to some hits in depreciation. I really like the 335i though, mostly based on that torque band that's available pretty much throughout. However, I've always loved the M3 and an argument can be made to just wait it out.

The 335i is obviously cheaper, will be plenty fast enough for daily driving, and the possibility of future tuning makes it very attractive. However, I would be losing more by turning in my 330i now instead of another year or two.

The M3, well its an M3. V8 power, will be insane, and no doubtedly will be much more pleasing aesthetically. In reality we could be talking over a 20k difference however.

What do you think?

I have a 330i now...god and money permitting I will be looking to get an m3 in a few years.

If you trade in for a 335i, you're going to kick yourself for not waiting for the m3.

I would just wait and see. The M3 is going to be a monster no doubt. Selling your car now would be just plian suicide to get the 335. Waiting for the M3 would be easier and less impact on the wallet! I/m already waiting anyway since I'm not buying another car here in Hawaii so 2008/09 is better for me anyway!

I thought that the 08' M3 would be coming out probably the same time

next year as the 335i is this year?? Correct me if I'm wrong...

The 335i is a 07' and the M3 is an 08', so wouldn't this make sense..

I'd bite my tongue for another year with a car (330i) that's is baddass

and wait for the M3.., b/c once you have that M3 you'll be kissing the ground

that you've waited....

The longer that you keep your 330i, the greater will be the depreciation. Another year means another 10-15% on top of the first year's depreciation. I think that the answer to your question lies in another couple of questions :
how much more horsepower do you really need ?
how much more are you prepared to spend (or can afford) for a 400+hp monster ?

I'm waiting for the V8 M3. I just got my 330i back in May, and expect the V8 M3 to hit the showroom sometime around June of year next year so I'll have had my car for 12 or 13 months by that point and will be able to sustain the loss financially. Although, the loss will probably be no more than 3 or 4 thousand dollars because it's a lease and I would be transfering it. I would probably offer up a $1,000 incentive and the other $3,000 loss comes from everything I've put into the car. Tires were $1,100 alone although they'll be at 3/4 of their life by the time I transfer the lease.

I would wait, the 08 M3 was the reason why I "cheaped out" and got a nicely loaded 325 (ZSP, ZPP, Xenons). Hopefully the 328 sedan doesn't steal my thunder on the trade-in.

You KNOW that if you're already considering a purchase of the 335, once the M3 hits the streets you'll be doing the same thing. Then, you'll be taking it in the ass twice, instead of once. Just my $.02.

isn't the question why you would buy a car in Feb and already want to replace it. You want to remain poor all your life?

I'm in the EXACT situation, kinda funny. I have a E90 330i, pickup in Oct 05, already looking for my next car. I absolutely love my 330i, but coming from an E46 M3 I miss the "sporty edge", as the 330 is a bit "soft" for my driving taste.

Anyway, if the 335 sedan is basically the same as the 330 sedan then I'll prob wait for the M3. If the 335 has sportier wheels, exhaust, etc than the 330i then I'd prob ED one and pass on the M3.

I can "afford" an M3, but way over my budget for what I would like to spend on a car. If I do pony up to buy one, I would be counting on high demand = high resale the first couple of years so I dont lose my a$$ when I sell it. I think they'll be pretty hot for the first 18 months, so resale should be higher than a normal 3 series.

1 Problem you have to return the lease with runflats which you are not running right now.

M3. 335i is a nice car, but it is not, and will never be like the M3.

The 335 is simply a 330 with a turbo, so nothing in common with an M3 at all

I'd wait.

The M3 is going to be one of the hottest rides on the street.
