F1 is still king in my opinion.
Being that it's 10+ years old and can still compete with today's standard is more than impressive. Put the F1 and Veyron on a track and then watch the outcome. |

I still like the McLaren F1 more, it is a classic from my youth and the ultimate car in my eyes.
I think a better drag would have been the Bugatti Veyron vs the (SSC Aero Ultimate or Koenigsegg CCXR or Ferarri FXX or Gumpert Apollo). |

don't understand how the veyron had such a suck-ass launch.
1,000bhp approx, AWD, 0-60 in 2.5s, what's up with that?

Also, none of them on Topgear took much notice that the F1 was killing the Veyron from the start! At top end the Veyron did get ahead but not by much. F1 for me please.

Gordon Murray had originally requested a ~450hp V12 from BMW, but he was shocked to discover that the engine had upwards of 600 ponies. That changed the game and has forever put the Mecca in the history books as arguably the best car ever made....

I'm thinking the owner of the Veyron didn't allow them to use the full launch control for the start. The Veyron is regularly with faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile times than the fastest ever recorded for the F1, so it should have taken it off the line with no problem. I've seen other videos of it being launched, and it's downright brutal. It's pulled 1.6 second 60ft times on a drag strip, which is pretty serious stuff for a car on street tires.
That said, I still love the F1, and if I had the money to buy either, it would be my pick. I also would love to see the Veyron up against some of the newer hyper cars like the SSC or the Zonda F. The thing is an engineering marvel for sure, but it's just soo damn heavy by supercar standards. |

both are too heavy, too much electronics controlling everything, but somehow by sheer brainpower they work very very well. I'm old school I guess, I much prefer the F1's mechanical nature.

I call BS on that test. If the Veyron was in v-max mode the wing wouldn't have come up.

Wow.
For some reason, I've always hated the Veyron. Just real gawdy and heavy, more of a technological marvel than incredible car. That being said, it's still godawful fast and I wouldn't turn one down if offered to me for free. The McLaren is ridiculous. Fifteen years later, and it's able to give the Veyron a run for its money in a straight line. Unbelievable. |

But the McLaren is always going to be special to me. The only thing that will probably always be cooler in my eyes is the F40, and I know the F430 Stradale is supposed to be faster, I just don't care. |

Oh I know. There are a lot of cars that will outrun a Veyron around a track. I'd be willing to bet that the ZR1 would do it, for about a tenth of the price. What I'd like to see is for Top Gear to line the car up in a 1 mile race against a couple of the other monsters, like the SSC. |
