Need some input on car change.. M3 compact track car vs E82

I am driving on track some weekends during the year, and i am modifying my one for this. But i got an offer yesterday to sell my one, and get an 1995 E36 compact as a trade in. Sounds no good at first, but its not an regular compact:

The E36 compact is quite special since its costum built, and EVERYTHING is controlled and approved at TUV in Germany and then approved in Norway.

Some of the modifications:
- E36 M3 3,0 engine (286hp Euro spec)
- H&R full coilover kit
- Sways
- Upgraded brakes
- Z3 Mcoupe rear suspension
- LSD upgraded to 40%
- 3.65 final drive
- Sparco racing seats
- Wiechers roll cage
- M3 front +++
- Repaintet in IBIS white from Audi
Weight about 1200kg

This is out for 190000 nok (30 736,38 usd)
Mine is worth about twice that, so he will pay the difference.

What would you do? Since i love tracking, and this is almost perfect for that task i am considering it.. 286hp on 1200kg with that final drive and LSD is FUN!

a few things...
  • tracking a car you can't afford to "total" isn't the best idea. Track day insurance may be a good idea regardless of car
  • The e36 will have issues. You'll need to travel to the track with a set of tools
  • The 1 series is under warranty I assume. That is a good thing
  • The 1 series gets "free" brakes. you can take advantage of that
  • The lower hp car will be easier on tires and brakes
  • The lower weight car will be easier on tires and brakes
I'd stick with the 1. I have friends with less than 100% reliable cars. Spending even a tiny amount of brain power on thoughts of mechanical failure doesn't help you learn or facilitate you going fast.
