330i Gear Ratio?
I can't, for the life of me, find the info on the rear end gear ratio for the 06 330i 6MT. Anyone know it? Thanks

Thanks, I looked here and google and I know I've seen it before but now can't find it. Just trying to see if going to a 3.73 open diff would be worth it

I think it is 3.23:1

Definately a 3.15 for the MT. I had mine swapped out to a 3.38 LSD. A 3.73 is a really high ratio for this car - better get it with an LSD to keep the power down.

I hope it makes a significant power gain from a dead stop. It drives me nuts how poorly it launches even with the RPM's up. I want violence at the stoplight every now and then.

I'm pretty confident that the 3.73 with an open diff will give you violence (and a larger tire bill if abused). If you want the full acceleration benefit get the LSD with it.

The manual cars are geared way too high. The good news is that it is much easier to find an automatic diff because manuals are fairly rare.

Diffs for an NA are definately available. You can get them from at least the following:
Your dealer (some will also do an LSD install into an existing diff) Diffsonline.com performancegearing.com AW325xi picked one up from diffsonline as mentioned above. I piccked mine up from Performance Gearing. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226769

HeelToe I know you said your 330i had a 3.15 ratio MT. I have a 325 MT so I am guessing its a 3.23. Are the differentials (carrier) interchangeable between automatic or manual, or 325 or 330??? I can get a 3.64 ratio from a 330 AT fairly cheap so I wanna know if I can install it and get the feeling for the ratio change and depending on that take the plunge for a LSD. Thanks!

You should double check with the pros at one of the places I mentioned in my previous post. When I talked to Jim Blanton at Performance Gearing I remember him telling me that the guibo setup on the 330i was unique and had a relationship to the diff design that prevented interchangeability with other e90 gearsets.

I also find it difficult to believe BMW would cast different differential housings for the same model cars. IOT keep costs down manufactures keep as much in common as possible. I think all E90 series differentials are interchangeable.

Maybe you can get them now but it sounds like AW325xi just got the same story. All other NA 330 diffs I've seen on this forum have been 3.38 or 3.64. Probably worth a call to one of these vendors or an alternate that you prefer. You'll find out for sure when you order.

If you look it up in realoem.com (drive shaft section), you can see the exact difference: The 330i has a drive shaft with 2 guibo's (one front, 2nd rear) and 1 U-Joint. 325i has only 1 guibo front but 2 U-Joints instead, therfore the input flange on the diff is defferent to the 330i. Question is, if the input flanges are interchangeable? The diff housings of all E90s are the same. 330i: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...18&hg=26&fg=10 325i: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...17&hg=26&fg=10 |
