Coral red leather question
I am planning on ordering the new 335i coupe with the coral red leather, but would like to know if previous or current red leather owners ever had or have a problem with the color fading with time. How do you guys think it will hold up. I am also worried about jeans or colored pants and shirts dyeing the red leather especially on hot days when your back is sweaty. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had Imola Red leather in my M3 and did not have a fading issue. I dressed with Lexol every 6 months and the brightness would return to new condition.
I sure received a lot of positive comments about the red leather. |

i really does require more care than black, grey, or tan.
i currently have it in an S4 Cab that i am Demo-ing (its the Crimson, which is identical to Coral) it shows a lot more, but i have seen it after a year, and it looks a little worn more than black would. but i think as long as you treat it every few months you will be fine. i would have gotten it in a heartbeat in my car if it was an option. damn.

I may be wrong but I think the red will be a surface dyed leather where the blacks are always vat dyed. My old e36 325 with the light grey ( oyster ) leather was vat dyed but my e46 with tan was surface dyed and did not hold up as well. The terra in my 06 appears to be vat dyed.....
I sure wish I could order a 335i sedan in jet black with red leather and grey wood !!!!!!! |

the red leather sample at the dealer was red on both sides..so i'm assuming it is vat dyed. |

The coral red leather is beautiful. Enjoy your fine choice. With proper care it should outlast the rest of the car.

if i wear black jeans on a platinum interior, i don't think you would have any trouble with a red interior

now here's the question- I've checked local Kragens and Autozones and nobody carries Lexol. Anyone knows of another store that might carry them? Please PM me because I will probably forget about my post in this thread. thanks

Well I started this, and I now I can finish it, somewhat! I actually ended up getting the coral red in my 335i coupe, and after a few months, I can tell you that stains from jeans, at least, do appear. The good news is that it comes off very easily with just a damp cloth. No special products just a nicely damped white cloth does the trick. I still need to see what will happen in the summer time with the inevitable sweat from our backs, and if the color ever will fade. I'll update in due time.

Just a side note. I was a long time Lexol user, but now exclusively use Zaino Z-10. Easier aplication, doesn't give that "sticky" feeling like Lexol, and you don't have to wipe off the excess. For cleaning I just use a mild soap and water solution on a sponge, let dry, and wipe on Z-10.
I have the Coarl Red, no issues. I had Black on my E90, and they both seem the same as far as care goes. |

The subtle wrinkling and creasing over time is a nice appearance IMO. Keep the color by treating it every 6 months (4 months on a convertible) and it will look beautiful for many years. Any owner that has problems with leather didn't do anything to treat it, or used improper dressings. It's that simple. Leather has natural oils used to tan and soften it. These need to be replenished over time. If you use anything with silicones, ect. it will soften it in the short term, but the natural oils will be replaced with the wrong things, and it will lead to drying and cracking.
