6mt drivers; Best Technique For Launching? (Fast Starts)

Been driving my first 6mt for about 4,000 miles now. I definitely have improved but my biggest weakness is getting a good launch from a standstill.

When I try to launch too fast off the line the engine lurches and boggs down...or I spin the wheels and don't get any traction for a good second or two.

What is the ideal way to get a good launch on this car?

BTW, I am running 20 inch wheels with BFG KDW2 tires...do I need to do anything different because of my shoes?

I just give it a little gas and then release the clutch not slow but not too fast as i press on the accelerator. The shoes might make a little difference but i dont think too much. Practice ur launches until you get it down pack.

When you say a little gas; about how many RPM's?

it's all about timing. i normally rev up to about 3K-4K, and as the RPM's begin to drop back down, release your clutch and punch your accelerator. don't ride your clutch too long during the launch because you will burn it and you will end up burning rubber at a stand still. Ideally, you want to squeal your tires for only a couple of seconds or less. get to know the exact relase point of your clutch for best results. practice, practice, practice. just becareful of the po po's, you will lose your license if they catch you.

I dont know about you, but popping clutch is not my way to caring for my car and my pocket book,
nor does riding the clutch. Whats wrong with the everyday smooth start?

I would guess side stepping the clutch at almost redline would be the fastest way, the wheels would probably hookup around 5K, the meat of the powerband.

The bottom end is very weak on the 325 so you probably need this aggressive approach.

Note this would be very hard on the drive train and I wouldn't do it, but this is almost certainly how to get a fast 1/4 mile time.

At the moment I drive an E46 330Ci Coupe. If I don't deactivate DSC, I don't have any chance of getting my wheels spin.
Are you driving in DTC mode?

left feet on the clutch, right one on the gas and brake at the same time, rev it to around 4k rpm, let go a little bit clutch, and slowly let go the brake, but keep the gas around 4k. now completely move your right feet to the gas, and also completely let go the clutch. forgot to mention, you can do it with 1st or 2nd gear, it doesn't matter. you do it with 2nd gear, you will see a lot smoke comes out from your tires, hahaaaaaa

When some foo rolls up in a g35 next to me the everyday smooth start will not suffice.

I have an E90 330i 6mt...I don't mess with the DTC button and I can get the wheels to spin. Maybe because I have a 6mt?

What does that do exactly?

Should I push it once, or completely turn it off by holding onto it?

Completely turn DSC OFF
Rev it up to ~4K and hold it there
Feather the clutch and don't floor the accel until the clutch is completely engaged.

I have also 6MT, and I can't smoke the tyres. With my previous 325i(E??, 1993?) this was no problem. But what's the plessure of burning the tyres down?

Maybe we have a language barrier.

When I say "spin the tires"...I dont mean smoking them. I mean having them move but without traction.
