Why does the Gear Indicator light stay on?

Hi,
Does anyone know why or what the purpose might be for the indicator light for Park to stay on (and doesn't seem to ever go off) when the car is parked?

Sorry, I had done a search but didn't use the right key words. The only search that came up when I first tried explained that the light stayed on but not why.

Probably for no good reason other than for legal issues...

He was already being generous by writing 2 sentences and contributing to the thread... while some others write 1 whole sentence and add nothing to this thread...

Isn't that what we're all here for?
To learn from and to teach each other info on E90's and BMW's.

Thanks for getting my back.

Dr325i, if you would have read through my complete post. I did tell the OP that the light will go off.

It's reminding you that you should have gotten the 6MT instead.

To split hairs, he asked about what BMW's reasoning was behind it, not whether it eventually goes off or not.

And I agree, your answer was rude.

In researching an answer for you, I searched for gear indicator light. It gave me seven or eight threads, one of which, I think, dealt specifically with your question.

In searching, use the longest words you think would be in the thread. I originally included the word on but the search engine kicked it back as being common or too short. It doesn't search for phrases, though.

Thank you First and Dr. I thought I was explicit in my subject line. I guess not. Meanwhile, as a newbie - there comes a point when you are doing a search that you give up and simply try and ask people with experience what the solution to your question might be. Didn't seem to work for me, though . . .
