335i sedan "the most hushed" new car release ever IMO
Of course there had been rumors about 335i sedan and even some early "unofficial" PDF spec sheets, but BMW never confirmed 335i sedan's existance until the last minute. Their reason is pretty obvious; BMW didn't want its release to affect current 330i sale. Even the BMW US website NEVER mentioned it in the Future Vehicles section. I cannot think of any other new car that was so secretive about its release.
I even went to the local BMW dealers only like two weeks ago and asked couple of the sales persons about the "upcoming" 335i sedan. They answer was like "well, it's just rumors and we never got any confirmation on that". I think they were lying. All of my friends are pretty well informed about the new cars, especially on the BMW, but none of them knew anything about 335i sedan until I told them recently! So it is obvious to me that many people bought 330i sedan recently without even knowing about the 335i sedan release so soon. I think some of them must be pretty pissed by now unless they knew about 335i sedan already or got pretty big discount on 330i. |

How about this:
When I was picking up my 335i, there was an older guy who was picking up his 06 330ci. The two cars were parked right niext to each other for pick up. The older gentleman started talking to me about my car, and I could see the look of disgust on his face. He had no idea about the 335i, or the change in body style, etc. The salesman wanted to kill me.

I did the same thing, and I didn't even realize I had done it until it was done. Youngish guy and wife sitting in 330i (parked right next to 335i), salesman went inside and we got to talking. I said "why aren't you holding out for the new sedan?" and that was the end of that haha.

I am assuming by 'picking up', he had already paid and was taking delivery of the E46 330ci

good for you Kevin, it's cool if the salesman was upfront and gave customers killer deals on these 'end of the year' model, but it's disgusting if they try to pass off the cars as the 'newest model'

maybe they dont want all the people that bought 06 330's to know that they basically spent $40+k on a car that is now obsolite.

I wouldn?t go as far as saying "obsolete" Ryan 330i. I leave it to the consumer to do their due diligence when making a purchase of that magnitude. You can't get mad at something if you don't do your homework on it...
I love my 330i, and wouldn't have it any other way. Sure, more power is always great, but as long as one is content with their own decision, it lays all questions down to rest. Most forum members knew that a new motor would be offered, yet they still pulled the trigger on the e90's. I fall into that category. ________ IPAD ACCESSORIES Last edited by HappyG; 05-17-2011 at 02:30 AM.. |

So interesting that the changes for '07 were so hushed by all dealers. When I was originally looking at buying a 330i, my salesman told me I might want to hold out for the new 335i sedan and I hadn't even mentioned it yet, and this was back in May after they just got the production sheets! In Birmingham, the saleswoman never mentioned the 335i, but she did acknowledge it once I brought it up and asked me if I wanted to wait for it (now I'm planning on ordering a 335i coupe probably closer to the end of the model year once discounts and better deals start popping up).

About 2yrs ago I saw a photo of a BMW part whose sticker showed all of the vehicles which used that particluar part. The 335i was listed on that sticker. Now many of use knew a 335 was going to come out. The question for North America was if it was going to be a turbo or a larger displacement I6. My guess, is that BMW either couldn't get the larger displacement I6 shoehorned into the engine bay of the E90, they could get it to run reliably, or manufacturing costs were too high. |

I knew that 335 came out - but we get 330 true European Delivery. This was THE BEST VACATION EVER!!!! Do I regret that 3 month later 335 came out - ABSOLUTLY NOT!!!!! Body of E90, difference is 45HP, chrome on buttons and Real Traffic on NAVY. I can live with out all of this easy. But vacation that I have with my family - priceless.

LUXMANN, u r sooo right about your statement. Although I purchased a new 330i sedan in July, I had no idea that a 335i sedan was coming out later this year I'm not mad though because 255 "ponies" is good enough for me Where the hell in the bay area are you going to REALLY use 300 horsepower There's traffic almost all the time on the majot freeways (101, 280, 680, 1).

Personally I wanted an xi from the start, so I'm quite happy I got one of the last few 330xi's. There's no 335xi as of yet and I would not have settled for a 328xi, so for me it worked out just fine

My only real gripes are 1) Sucks to not have the fastest E90 sedan while the car is so new. 2) The 330i will become less desirable in years to come and will only appeal to the bargain shoppers. When I was looking at used E46's some time back, I would not even consider the 328i in the knowledge that used 330i's were available. I didn't care about model year - just knowing that a 330i was available made me ignore the 328i in the listings. As we all know the 328i was a very fine car in it's own right and had only a slight HP disadvantage against the 330i. I can get over item 1 with time - it was bound to happen eventually. Item 2 will bother me a lot in years to come when we sell/trade the car - because I can't see us getting top dollar.

Well, Automobile magazine did second dyco test on the 335i turbo engine and the result is nothing short of amazing. They confirmed that new 335i engine put nearly 300hp and 300lb-ft to the WHELL!!! This means the new turbo engine's real output is like 350hp or so. This could be one of the most underrated engine in the recent history. Car & Driver also clocked 4.9sec to 60mph so its performance is almost to the current M3. The new 335i sedan is not just improvement over 330i, but puts it in totally different class of car at "mere" couple thousands $ more. So the difference in hp and performance between 330i to 335i sedan is much more than 45hp on the paper! 330i owners can say whatever they would like to justify their decision and to feel comfortable. But if I own a 330i and see 335i with dual exhaust passes me by, I would be really pissed everytime. More than 1 sec difference to 60mph is like eternity in real world. Of course current 330i is very capable car, but if the 335i sedan doesn't bother you, you're either lying or just don't want to think about it. 335i sedan offers the one of the best all-around sport sedan performance money can buy. All at no loss of fuel economy! 330i didn't get "obsoleted" as some claims. It just got "downgraded" big time. |

I wanted the xi, so that softened the blow. The blow being I never expected the 335 to be so affordable.
