E92 beckons.. must resist!
When I ordered my 330i last October, I knew the coupe would come within a year or less, and was just fine with the sedan so I went ahead and ordered. When I read of the new motor & more power, didn't bother me a bit - I'm satisfied with my 330i and there's always something better/faster right around the corner.. no sour grapes here.
But when the 335i finally appeared in the flesh, I couldn't help but be tempted to take a big hit and upgrade. Got to see a bunch of them up close and personal yesterday while picking up a part at the stealership, and I'm sorry but that car is just damn gorgeous. Followed one for about 5 blocks on the way home and the view from the rear is great.. looks low and purposeful, while not going overboard at all.. the E90 sedan says "family car!" from behind. Trivial thing but one of many things I really like about the coupe. So, do I do it? I can afford the hit, that's not an issue at all. Doesn't mean that I can cost-justify it though. I'm guessing I could probably get $37-$38k for my 330i if sold privately (10k miles, TiAG, black leather/aluminum, premium, sport, comfort access, Sirius, 6MT) and that would minimize the hit vs trading it in. Still a substantial hit. I know there have to be more of you in the exact same position. Looking for thoughts from YOU guys. What are you going to do? Anything? Maybe wait a year or so then upgrade? Anyone have an idea what my car might bring in trade? I really don't want to go there with the stealership, cuz next thing I know, my name will be on a new contract!

I just love these threads. I am so glad I waited it out for the new coupe, but now I kinda wish I ordered a 335i instead of a 328i, but I honestly didn't feel the need for more power, I test drove the 328i and it was a hella lot faster than the 325i I drove and almost bought 6 months ago.

YAY! Another one of these threads!
Coupe's nice and all but I wanted a sedan so I'm happy. I think you're the first person I've seen here that wants a coupe based on just looks, rather than the extra HP / turbo and feeling that they got a slower car. If that's the only factor then I'd say hold off. Got extra $$$ to burn, mod your car and get a body kit. Personally, I'd wait for the M3 cos guess what? Imagine you take the hit and get that coupe, then in a year or two it'll be "man I wish I held out for the new M3!" Then you'll take another hit. And this has been mentioned before, but you know, other peoples' food / car / girl / etc. looks better... gotta appreciate what you got. Luckily with food you can always get a new plate, and a car you can take a hit on or wait it out and do a smart trade later... and girl, well you better choose that one right the first time (and not based on looks alone like cars)

Thanks for the replies thusfar. It's not that the power isn't a big thing, it is.. just that I'm not UNsatisfied with the 330i's grunt. Definitely like the overall look of the coupe better, and I really don't "need" a 4-door.. as Judge Reinhold once said, "I'm a single successful guy!".
No desire whatsoever for an M3. Overkill for me. The 335i couple hits that sweet spot for me - ballsy but not uncomfortable/impractical as a daily driver, agressive yet subtle in appearance, and while expensive, not overly so like an M3. Non-issue there, there will be NO regrets when the M3 does arrive. What exactly WOULD the Tanuki do? Maybe that's how I can decide!

Well, if you're serious then I'd still say wait a bit. Them being so new will make the hit big. You could wait, see if any "bugs" get worked out, or if you can't wait then try selling privately to get more than the stealership would offer. And your car's still warrantied so that should help the sale.

I had heard about the 335 for quiet a few months before I ordered mine on August 28th, 2006. I had never seen the actual car until I had been thinking of buying a new car to replace my 2003 fully modded GTI. The moment I saw it in mid-August, I knew I had to wait out on any other car. I was going to buy a 2007 GTI 2.0T but now that I got a new job and can afford a BMW, I thought that I'd need something more sophisticated but at the same time balsy. I was also thinking of getting a IS350 or S4 or used A8 - but this car took my heart. I'm only 20 years old and think I've made a great choice in getting the 335. I saw the 328 about a week after I ordered my 335 and I was in shock. The car looks way more appealing in person. It's like "WOW" I can't wait till I get mine. I think I'm going to test drive the car every week so they go by quicker.

THere is ALWAYS going to be the next bigger and better car or anything else for that matter in this modern marketing world. I bought a 323CI back in 1999 and 2 mos later came the 325. So what it didn't make my 323 any less enjoyable to drive, in fact I'm still driving it 120K later. If it was me I would stand pat, and enjoy your very nice ride.
