Park Distance Control
I'm probably going to order this option with my car, but I wanted to know
if anyone has been deeply annoyed of that beeping noise to the point that they regret choosing the option?? From my past experiences in some of my friend's cars' (not BMW's) that had that option, I've found it very annoying...

can't you turn it off if you're annoyed? and on when you need it?

It's not annoying at all, it only starts beeping when approaching something. My older W211 E-class started beeping much earlier...
In my E61 I can turn it on and off, in the E90 it is automatically engaged when you put it in reverse. On the E90 I only have rear pdc, in the E61 front and rear. Perhaps the switch comes in the E90 as well when it has front and rear PDC.

My e90 325i has front and rear PDC and can be turned off with a switch each time i put it into reverse. I don't really pay that much attention to it, however I like it for my wife, now there isn't much excuse for hitting anything. Also the PDC graphic can be turned on and off using the idrive.

The E90 PDC is great.
The rear ones only come on in reverse and the front ones come on when you press the button on the console. The X5 PDC for example, is on all the time and keeps beeping eveytime you drive near to a pedestrian or a lampost etc. That IS annoying.

I thought E90 PDC only came for REAR and no FRONT option was available... only on higher series. But from your post and the E91 guy below yours... hmmm I'm confused... is this a non-US option or what?

I had front and rear PDC on my 530d and have rear PDC on my 330i.
Personally - I think the rear PDC is more useful and the front PDC is a bit of a waste of time. Both activate automatically when you put the car into reverse (or can be activated by pressing a button). But, when reversing out of a space you stick the car into reverse then get a continuous beep from the front sensors if you are close to the end of the bay (wall or similar), which makes you switch it off .... then you realise that you have also switched off the rear one - which you need - gah... I'd just get rear. |

PDC is a thing of beauty. With IDrive, the beeps help when the computer is slow to boot up. (Happens when the car has been sitting for a while and the computers power down) I am SOO glad we got it. Working and Playing in SF makes bumper bumping a way of life. This has saved me from doing the bumping myself.

Are you sure yours is US spec? I know mine is and it only came with rear PDC.
As for turning it on or off, I think it can be turned off with iDrive. But why would you want to turn off the beep? It only sounds when your within five feet and the closer you get to the object the faster it beeps. The display (in iDrive) starts off with a perimeter line. When something is inside this the area is highlighted in yellow. When it gets within two feet or so the area turns red. When I'm backing up, I'm looking over my shoulder or checking the mirrors instead of a TV screen and I find the beeping to be useful for telling me something low is about to hit my nice clean bumper and ruin my day.
