WTF just happened?!?!?

Today I start the car up. All seemed normal. Drove the car for 5 minutes. Some stop/start traffic. Then as soon as I pull off I get chugging of the engine in 1st with misfires I think, put into 2nd and as I lay off the gas more chugging and stop start sort of like the car is about to stall. Then I get to traffic lights and my car stalls with the yellow engine light on (typical when stall) with a burning type smell I think. I wait 30 seconds or so with hazards on, turn my car back on and nothing for the rest of the day (yellow engine light off), another 60 miles or so. What the hell just happened?

I'm thinking its a fuel pump failure?

You reckon?

Injector Failure

same thing happened to me a week ago. I took it to my stealership the same day and diagnosed misfire from the fuel injection. When I picked it up(2 days later), the paper showed replacement of all 6 fuel injectors and spark plugs, but did not show any hpfp failure.

I'm 80% sure isnt your hpfp but your injectors.

Wow Rob cheers for that!! I took the car out today and it seemed fine to work and back. No indication of any of what happened yesterday. I just recently got the spark plugs changed but with regard to the fuel injectors you could actually be correct. For example, when I move off from 1st gear I get a loud clunky, metallic TING from around the car (heard this is also fuel injectors), cant place it at the moment. And also when I floor it in 2nd or 3rd while rolling there is a lag in power for about 1/2 second then the power hits in. This explains a lot.

Any other comments welcome.

This sh** just happened again at a red light. Car shudders and stops. Tried to restart it and it powers then dies, did it like 2 times same thing. Waited for 10 minutes and it was on. This time the yellow engine light comes up on my dashboard and stays for the journey home. It's still there when I turn the car on later.

So I've booked it in and am waiting to see the result.

The car may have a mechanical problem, BUT, when it leaves you dead in the middle of an intersection, it is a safety problem. Does England have some sort of highway/auto safety institute that you can complain to.

Took it into dealers and they said they cleaned out the solenoids which had accumulated a bunch of carbon. That all cleaned and the engine light has gone obviously. Wait and see...thoughts???

Sounds like you already got it taken care of. I would have also said fuel injectors. Maybe get some injector cleaner and run that in your next tank just to be sure?

I would think the car acting like that would have thrown a few codes that the dealership could read. Be persistent about taking it to the dealer, if only to keep a record. Hopefully this is just a hiccup and nothing permanent.

You sure its carbon build up in the solenoids? Or in the injectors? I dont think its possible to have carbon to build up in the solenoid
