Don't even think about it! The coupling is not designed to fit properly.
When or if it slips, the least of all problems would be a broken suspension and scraped undercarriage. The worst would be loss of life or limb.

Yeah, I woudn't do it. You run the danger of the car slipping from the jack while you are working on the car. If you work on your car at all, you should get an inexpensive jack kit like this one:

Here's what happened when someone used a MB jack:

I kept an old scissor jack from a corolla in the trunk, used it a couple of times with no ill effect. I don't trust it 100% however, I always make sure to jam in a spare wheel under the car should the jack start to fail.

+1 I keep my old Camry jack in the trunk, fits in the lift cups perfect. There should be no problem at all using it if it fits the lift cups.
Just look at the OEM BMW jack kit, has the same type of scissor jack. Like any jack, don't use it to crawl under your car....use jack stands! Otherwise for changing a tire its fine. |

Avoid HONDA jacks. Mine failed on me. The threaded socket made of plastic just gave up. I filed a complaint at Federal office for this. the only unoffical feedback was that I shouldn't use it to change wheels on a regular basis (simmer/winter seasons).
I bought one with steel socket. Had to do it anyway because my car is so low that my floor jack won't fit under. |

So then how can I put or use a regular jack stand, you know the V-shaped ones that you get from harbor freight or sears crafts man that look like this: \_v_/
onto the jack pad so that it will not crush/deform the jack pad? what do you guys put in between safely? or do you not put anything at all? my jack has a nice flat lift pad so i'm not worried about that. |

I use one from a 1991 Toyota Camry that fits perfectly into the plastic jack point.

For the jack stand issue, you can remove the cups and just use them on the flat spot beneath, or put them just to either side of the cup. |

For the record I hope you guys realise that jacks have rated capacities.
Prior to getting my E90 I had an integra and I would NEVER even think about using that little scissor jack on the E90. I got myself the 3500lbs heavy duty jack.

Lifting a corner up on the 3 will never exceed 1000lbs, the scissor jacks will be fine for that. However yes I agree if you are trying to lift up half of the car...that's when you need a hydraulic jack.

Is it a scissor jack? No not all BMW jacks are the same...my E34 jack is way different, and so was my E36. The e36 has an adapter that goes into a hole in the side skirt.

I use a floor jack and a jack pad adapter from ECS to ensure the plastic jack points don't get destroyed. As far as jack stands go, I am simply unable to figure out how one would jack a car up using the designated point and then get a jack stand under that same point once the car is raised. There are other points on the car that are approved but they are at the center of the car and since most jack stands have that U shaped point of contact they don't work well towards the goal of a stable point of contact. That U shape is designed to be placed on a solid axle not a flat surface as it present in most modern cars. I wish someone would just come up with a floorjack that had a mechanical lock so it would essentially convert to a jack stand once the car is raised. Maybe one of you companies like ECS should jump on that idea.

My Toyota Camry scissor jack fits the plastic lifting pad on E92 perfectly. Using the jack to put spare tire on seems fine but DON'T ever use any scissor jack for any work under the car!
