Parking neurosis....
I am admittedly a nut about where and how i park my car when i go out. I generally look for end spots exclusively, and if the parking lot is large and there are empty spots far from the other cars i will always opt for one of them which my girl cannot stand . I 'almost' never valet, but it is extremely difficult in LA, especially going to restaurants where most times it is the only option unless you want to spend an hour trying to find a spot on the street. I am sure i'm not the only one paranoid about parking, right?

I just try not to park next to janky looking cars or cars that are parked all crooked. Telltale signs that they dont give a shit about property or don't know how to drive. That and really narrow spaces like compact spots or next to two huge SUVs. Other than that, I'm not really that anal about parking. If I happen to see an end spot, I'll park there and go closer to the curb, but I don't actively seek them out.
I do that in every car I drive though, whether its my mom's, my old Accord, or now my E90.

I used to be the same way, always looking for the farthest spot away from the masses of "would-be" door dings UNTIL...I parked my old 3 vert in the back of a lot only come back late night to find someone had cut a hole through the roof to steal my bag and laptop. Being all alone just gives stupid people ample time and seclusion to do their dirty work. Parking with, or near, the masses guarantees at least some foot traffic to ward off loser criminals...its a fine balance i think

I tend to park a few spots away from everyone but not too far away. Reason being that assholes love to go after cars that are parked away from everyone. I once got my car detailed and parked it a the end of a lot. When I got back to a car I found a Wendy's frost dripping all over it. Some POS threw it at my car. There are some serious low-lives out there and they hate the fact that their broke asses cannot afford nice toys, so they take it out on other people's toys.

I too park WAY away from civilization when I go out and even at work, but with my luck I always have jack ass's who want to be cool and parks an inch from my doors for some reason?
(Except for work, they leave a space inbetween on each side now)

I try to find spots at the end of the street or ahead of fire hydrants so that my back bumper is not exposed. Unfortunately, one time some jerk in a pick up with a hitch parked his POS on the bridge of my front end right in between the grills and left a scratch.

I usually try to park my car away from old cars, minivans and SUVs. But I don't go carzy and spend too much time.
At the end of the day, I am not married to my car. I bougth it to enjoy not to be misarable. I expect my car to serve me instead of me serving her. Hey, life is too short to worry about every little thing that may go wrong. Recently I have had too many family members and close friends figthing with cancer and that changed the way I run my life..I try not to let little things ruin my day. I suggest you do the same |

Also, fat people tend to park closer to the door and when they get out of their car, the doors need to open further, increasing the risk of damage. Yeah I said it... |

I had to leave my car parked over night at the dealer to diagnose a possible HPFP issue last night. I still don't have it back yet. I've been a wreck, because I'm sure someone is going to slam something into it...
..And I told them do not wash the car!

Yeah, I always try to park away from everyone in parking lots but have had this backfire on me! I purchased a new 04 Grand Cherokee and, about 3 weeks into owning it, I was at Home Depot, parked out in the middle of nowhere, and when I came out there was a cart sitting against my Jeep. It caused a baseball sized dent on the rear fender; the cart was either hit by a car to send it rolling or the wind blew it across the parking lot.
Recently, I was at home depot again and parked in with the pack and there was a square dent in the passenger door when I came out. Looked like someone hit it with the end of a 4x4. Basically, you are at risk no matter where you park....people are idiots and don't care about their own stuff let alone yours! |

I work by Rowland Heights, CA and if any of you are local, you know there are Asians here. Not to diss on all Asians(because I'm Asian as well), but it's about 50/50 odds for me to park next to a bad park job as to park next to a good park job. People here can't seem to understand they need to park within the lines. |
