Gas tank problem?
I had about 39 miles left to my tank, so i went to fill up
As I was cleaning my windows, I noticed it stopped pumping gas... only 6 gallons... So I started it again, but it stopped after half a gallon I started it again but it stopped again.. but this time it filled up 2 more gallons. I am confident that I need more than 8.5 gallons if I only had 39 miles left on my tank.. In the past, I would need at least 13+ The highest I have ever put in the car is 13.9 (never hit 14) However, the after the last try, it ended up filling up to a total of 14.2 gallons So I thought to myself that is it finally full.... But i was surprised at the amount as I have never put that much in the tank before. My fuel gauge was also past full... something that hasn't happened before. Soooo is something wrong with my gas tank to a point where I'll need to remove my mods and go to the dealer? This happened before in my Porsche, but it ended up fixing itself after a few fill ups.. Which is what I hope will happen now Anyone else have a similar experience? Sorry about the pic size.

IMO it's normal. What you said happened with the pump stopping is a common occurrence. A lot of pumps have multiple stop points on the handle and if so, use an earlier one, it won't fill quite as fast, but it is less likely to do that. Why it hasn't happened to you in the past, I don't know. Maybe the pressure was higher in that particular pump?
Anyway if you are low on gas it's normal of it to take upwards of around 15 gallons (even above if you are REALLY low). My car will go above the full line if it's full. And your first issue might explain the second. You made sure it was full rather than let it go at the first stop. Or perhaps you normally do that, just a guess. Anyway, worry wise I would put your problem at a 0.1 on a 1-10 scale.

Try adjusting the seal
I have the same thing happen.
Problem: The problem is that the vapor seal isn't making good contact at the entrance to the tank. The angle of the "gas tank filler hole" makes it tough to get a seal, with some pumps; this causes the pump to shut off the gas supply prematurely. On my first fill-up after buying the car, I actually thought my fuel guage was broken. Solution: after I've inserted the fuel pump handle fully, I've found that I can simply pull back on the seal/boot/whatever-its-called and then move the whole handle up a bit, at which point the seal makes better contact with the hole. You will actually feel it settle down into the hole when you do this. Once I started following this procedure, I have not had any more problems with "premature shutoff." I've never had to do this with my other cars, but maybe this is more common on Euro-sourced vehicles? |

thanks for your inputs
I didn't think it was a serious thing at all, but I didn't think it'd hurt to ask :P

happened to me too. It stopped filling up halfway tried again, maybe half a gallon. I took out the pump and pushed it back in all the way and it started working again. Sometimes the pump prematurely stops because it doesn't make a good seal i guess. Nothing serious.

It's the pump handle. Some times the pressure valve gets caddywampus if the previous user slams the pump handle around. Try removing the pump handle from the filler neck and invert it for a few seconds to let the pressure valve reset. The reinsert the pump handle into the filler neck and start pumping.
