is this normal for a dealership to do?
I bought my car used from the auction, however it is still well within warranty. I bring it to a local dealership for all of my service.
I have a specific rep i deal with at this dealership bc he is my mechanic's (for my cars out of warranty) hook-up there. So I called him to set up an appointment to bring my car in and see if I can get a loaner. He told me he can't give out a loaner from the dealership bc I didn't buy the car there, but that he would get me one from Enterprise at no cost to me. Is this something that all service centers do, or did this guy hook me up? BTW he didn't make it sound like he was doing me a favor or anything. |

It's up to the dealer to decide who gets the loaners. However, it's not uncommon for dealers to say no if you didn't buy the car there.

Same thing happend to my brother. He bought his R32 at a dealer quite far away from where live, got a good price. Got a recall notice not long time ago, brought the car to a VW dealer few miles away from us and they told him the same story blaba.... and gave him a loaner from Hertz. Free of charge of course. They might have a special policy, I don't really know or care, just take the loaner from Enterprise and go on.

I must have read this same question over a hundred times on the various Bimmer boards. These are the facts: There is no requirement whatsoever for a dealer to loan you a BMW or other car, either for free or for some charge, even if you bought a 7 Series Alpina from them.
Most dealerships do give a free loaner if you bought the car from them, but about half the time it isn't a BMW. Sometimes it's even a cheapie SUV like I've gotten twice. If your SA is arranging a free Enterprise renter then count yourself lucky, he likes you. |

it's up to the dealer to decide what to do with their loaner car program. They don't have to provide a free BMW loaner if they don't want to. From what I heard on this forum, dealers are cutting back. Some won't even give out BMW loaners, original customer or not. Some would give you non-BMWs for free, but some would make you pay for a non-BMW loaner.
Call up other BMW dealerships in your area to see if they would give you a BMW loaner. |

My old M3 was serviced at the same local dealer for many years, but I brought the car certified from a different dealer, so I always got enterprise cars for loaners. Totally normal practice... Be happy you are getting one.

I always get a BMW loaner from the dealer when my car is in for service and I didn't buy my car from them.

I get the same Run-around from every dealer that i didnt purchase my car from.. I think its BULLSHIT!! i had to pay $38.00 one time cuz i didnt have a ride to work and all my buddies and family were too busy to take me to work..and this is from a BMW dealership(Valencia BMW)..
Id love to get the exact guidlines on Loaner cars for owners under warranty getting their car serviced.

Same for me too! My car is now just out of warranty, but they still gave me a BMW loaner when I had to take mine in for the passenger seat airbag sensor recall. Can't imagine why they wouldn't want to give one, they will make more money on servicing the car than they ever did selling you the car.

There isn't one. Loaner policy is completely up to the dealer. Some will give BMW loaners to anyone that gets service done. Some will give BMW loaners only to people that bought from them.
