535.8 miles (and then some) on a tank
I read an article at cleanmpg.com stating the mileage wonders of the 335d. I just completed a weekend round trip between Kansas City and St. Louis (to see the Vikings play the Rams) and thought I'd do a comparison of results. First, here is the key summary of the cleanmpg folks' trip: 812.8 miles on 16.485 gallons = 49.30 mpgUS. aFCD showing 49.0 mpg at 51 mph avg. speed. The full text of their findings can be found at http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=202194
Here's what I did: 535.8 miles (about 40 miles were city miles - some heavy stop and go traffic). The trip gauge says that I traveled at an average mph of 65.6 and 36.7 mpg. However, according to my calculation based on fill up to fill up (the entire trip was on one tank of diesel with some to spare), I used 14.986 gallons of diesel which = 35.75 mpg. That said, the 65.6 average mph, doesn't quite do justice to the speed with which the car did it's highway miles. When pulling into a rest stop about 150 miles into the journey on the first day, I could see the average mph dropping .1 mph every few seconds or so. The odometer started the trip at 1953 total miles, so I think the engine still has some breaking in to do from what I hear. This upcoming weekend is a round trip to Minnesota. Go Vikings! |

Congrats on the run.
I would say from my own experience that you had extended periods at 80+ mph to have an average mph of 65.6
