Exclamation 320d 150bhp cold start shaking and smoke

Hello,

I have bought e91 320d 150bhp noidrive m6 in may, since then i have done 19k kilometers with no problem at all.

I decided to do chip remap to increase power little, they did 184bhp 420nm.
I drove car for a week also no problems at all since today morning.
Temperatures decreased below 5 degrees C, and when i pressed start button it shaked a lot and some smoke went off exhaust (white i think but not sure), i was able to drive off.. Then nothing else happened, everything is fine since then, no shake, no smoke, i tried cold start again today 3 times already (temperature is same whole day)

Any advice or hint guys? Should I force tuner to load in old software or its not related?

these are all ideas. maybe try new glow plugs? i know the engine and cats in the pertol modles make a grinding/scratching sound when the car is really cold at times, mine does that all the time. but i would think that it most likely is that your tune makes the car burn more gas therfore when you start more of it is going to the engine on starts so it burns more of it up than with the OEM program. so more gas at a cold start mean more emissions and the cats dont have time to burn most of it off. pluss disel takes longer to start anyways so that would explain why you could feel the engine cranking over more vigerously now that its cold.

im cooling myself everything is okay also..
i was there though he did sw on laptop right before me, saying what hes doing he did nothing to fuel, just filled some gaps, raised limiters, turbo pressure from 1.6bars to 1.65 and some other shiz, nothing with start program or somthing, i might be worng though..

question is, temperature dropped even more today and theres no sign of shaking (yeah it did really noticeably shaked whole car at morning) and no sign of that smoke cloud anymore (just std condensation).. engine was let to cool for 5hrs in 2.5 degrees of C, no symptomps at all during start

i was thinking about some gaskets or something that allow fuild (coolant?) to go into cylinders? maybe over some time and then when u start..., but again i had broken gasket under head on vw passsat before and it wasnt smoking this way just was losing coolant significant..

so maybe its normal, i ll update you on progress

Check fuel injectors.

You should have used a good, trusted brand of remap, you should never let local companies flash your car with their own in-house maps.

It sounds like a fuel issue to me. If it only happened once and doesn't repeat, I would suspect you might have gotten a little bit of bad fuel. Do they switch between summer and winter grades of diesel where you live? 5 degrees C is not cold enough to cause gel issues for summer grade diesel, but if they are getting ready to switch over to winter grade fuel they might be running the tanks a little low.

funny you post this. i got something similar but not sure if i seen smoke. not anything noticable but definately engine shuddered, already 2nd morning in a row. :S no remap though.

here's my thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=311291. let me know if you sort it out or wotnot, im wondering if its battery or glowplugs or something more serious.

necro: its pretty standard in my case, white smoke all the time if i dont drive for while (day or so) in cold
its pretty ok, no problems with it, seems like water condensation with no negative side effects
