Nintendo Sent Me Mario's Hat

It looks pink in the picture...I blame my camera phone. But it really is red. Shame it comes with a disclaimer that it's only for decoration, not to be used as a real hat.

The time to get the hat has passed. However, they will be awarding new prizes as time goes on. Register on Nintendo.com for ClubNintendo. Then register your Nintendo products to get "coins." If you have enough coins at the end of a period, they will award you a prize and ship it out to you free!

Last year, I got a deck of Hanafuda Cards with Mario Bros. characters on them. The year before that I got a Legend of Zelda stylus for my DS that looks like a feather pen.

i did what you said, and i know have 730 coins and i am platinum. will i get this magical hat?

You're in the pool for the next set of prizes. Make sure to do the surveys to get more coins. Get into Platinum Status for one set of prizes (I could've chosen to get a fight with Doc in Punch Out instead of the hat), or Gold Status (a different set of prizes). There's usually a link that shows you which prizes will be available in each tier.

i have been platinum for a couple of months? do i have to do something to intiate my prize? i read online i have to do something on my Wii??

No, but you were supposed to log on to your account and select a prize. Try and do it ASAP, but I think the time had passed some time ago. I don't know if your coins will carry over to the next round.

There are current prizes to be sent to you for your "coins."

Currently, they are:
Legend of Zelda Poster (shows Link from the first Zelda, to the latest Twilight Princess) 350 Coins
Game and Watch Collection 800 Coins
Wii Remote Holder 300 Coins
Nintendo DS Case Lite (Silver) 400 Coins
Nintendo DS Lite Game Card and Stylus Set (Variety, choose one) 600 Coins
Nintendo DS Game Rack 600 Coins
Animal Crossing Playing Cards 500 Coins
Mario Party Playing Cards 500 Coins
Hanafuda Cards 800 Coins

Aside from the items you can spend your coins on, perhaps Nintendo will do Gold/Platinum status and awards again. I can speak from experience:

The Hanafuda set is a great collectors item. Many non-Japanese (and even Japanese) will find it boring though. It's an older person/children's game. Young adults, unless they're Japanophiles will not be interested.

The Nintendo DS Game Rack is pretty cool (friend from college had it in his dorm room).

Wii Remote Holder looks like a good way to store your Wiimotes.

I looked at my account and have "Elite Status 2009," which is over. I'm assuming this means they will do an Elite Status 2010 for a free prize such as the Mario Hat I received. The amount of coins needed for "Elite Status" is: 300-599 for Gold Status, 600+ for Platinum Status.
