iPhone ringtone help

Can someone help me out with how to go about getting ringtones for my iphone? Can i just use songs I've got on iTunes already? Or does it have to be a specific file type on iTunes?

even if you didn't buy then from iTunes you can turn any song into a ringtone

If you are on Mac, you use garageband. Pretty much anything can be used as a ringtone. Although some copy protected songs can't be used. In which case, just run them trough Audio Hi Jack Pro, and make them into DRM less files.

This Apple article explains how to turn anything in garageband into a ringtone.

you can easliy make ringtones through itunes without paying for it.
