I like the classy interior of my 335i tyvm. A lot of people can't appreciate the beauty of it because of all the overdone "hi-tech" interiors some other cars have. To each their own I guess.

I agree. The BMW interior is designed to almost perfection.

Audi interiors are the worst. They "look" flash, but spend some time in one and the designer in you will say "why?"

Good example: In a Audi A6, try opening the glovebox. There isn't anything on the actual glovebox itself - you have to locate a button on the dash which opens it. Bad design - but it does add another button to make people say "Ooowww".

But hey, as you say, each to their own!

I liked the look and feel of my old S4 interior. It did not have that glove box stupidity, though. I don't like on the new S4 the button for the parking brake, even on a manual transmission. I prefer to have a regular old pull up hand brake.

A bit like the button in the X5/6?

I love the classy interior of the 3 as well but would like the option for finer touches such as a leather dash.

Does the designer in you also ask why BMW makes you insert the key fob THEN push a starter button to fire up the engine? What's wrong with the old elegant and simple "insert and twist"?

To each his own, and the majority of critics judge the Audi interior is a notch above BMW in term of material quality.

I don't think we will ever get that since it's for the higher series's.

I do like the 3 interior as well. A lot of people say it looks outdated or too plain. But it has everything you need without being cluttered.

I agree, for the most part. BMW interiors (much like the rest of the car) are driver oriented - function over form. Audi and especially Jag try for that "Oooooww" effect more - form over function. Comparing A4 to 3 Series, I'm not blown away by the Audi interior at all.

My Dad is in the process of getting a loaded 10' S4. The interior, including the seats, is pretty stunning.

Key: insert, then twist
Fob: insert, the press

Same action. Don't see the point.

But now I do ask why the hell I have to adjust my seat, radio stations etc when I get into my old "key" BMW after my wife has driven it. Suddenly, the fob makes sense.

My brother in law owns a paint and panel shop which specialises in European cars. Has done for 20 years.

He much prefers to work on BMW as the fit and finish and materials are superior to Audi and Mercedes.

I have been down to the shop where he has shown me very very detailed disassemblies and how the Audis are actually not that well put together compared to BMW. On the outside they look similar.

Very eye opening. Especially when you see parts from BMW just click into place as they should - and Audi (like most toyotas), you have to bend and twist the parts to get everything to line up. Looks OK once it is on.

I wish the lighting was blue/whitish instead of red/orange. Not great looking compared to a lot of other cars. that might be to much for some of you?? But I think the blueish white looks very classy.

I actually think that BMW is one of the few car makers that has a distinct stylistic design to the interior of their cars. I would describe it as very contemporary and minimalistic. No clutter, not too many buttons, clean lines, lots of wood.

Of course there is always room for improvement and a 3 series is not to be compared with much more expensive cars such as Bentley or even high ends benzes.

However, I will say for sure that I think the 3 series beats the interior of the current audi A4, even though it is newer. The Audi is just so busy and "illogical" to me. But I guess some will argue...

How much is that package going to cost? I remember watching a special on rolls royce, each car is handbuilt and takes like 6 months to build. On the special they were doing a custom champagne cooler in the trunk for one customer. They also did a feature on their pinstripe guy who does the stripes by hand using only a fine brush. Takes him 3 hours to do each one. I can't imagine what an interior by rolls royce might cost as an upgrade.

I saw that special! It was pretty eye opening and makes you realize a little bit more why those cars cost what they do.

I really have no desire for a super fancy interior, especially if it would increase the cost. I want comfortable, supportive seats with nice leather and a nice thick steering wheel. Anything else is wasted on me I think. I'd rather they spend development dollars on a car that drives, shifts, accelerates, rides and steers better than on a super luxury interior.

+1

I prefer simple, professional, classy interiors versus all the overdone gaudy tech plastic look.

i wish that that they'd simply offer a bit more colours for interior, may be different pattern for the seats, alcantara not only for Msport, etc, but really rolls royce means more wood, beiege leather and some funky ceiling. I'm not sure I'd wanna pay for that considering it would be couple grand more easily for the premium.

and BMW Rollys Royce edition 3 series interior? talk about getting all weird with the branding. I think BMW did this crap with Mini may be to respond to this Aston Martin Toyota version.

This makes sense for the Mini. That car is basically a custom order vehicle with all kinds of variations in trim and colors. Adding a Rolls Royce interior is a little over the top but perfectly in line with the custom philosophy.

Thanks, Mike.
