I think it depends on your car's make, not on whether or not you have the sport package .... but I could be wrong ...

From what I understand, it's a function of build date, if you have a manual transmission, and if you have the sports package. It's confusing; someone here knows though.

Confusing indeed. Generally, you need both ZSP and the upgraded 19" wheels (which raises the top speed limiter to 155mph). Here's the easy way to tell if a car has it, look for this plastic grate in the front-passenger wheel-well:

I don't have it on my steptronic, sport/premium 07 335i coupe. I dont track, so I don't care that much...but it does routinely hit 240-250 degrees when driving hard .

I think thats 18" wheels you need. As far as the xi models go you need sport + 18" wheels. For the i models I think I remember reading somewhere that all you need is sport package but I could be wrong about that and it may also need 18" wheels. Plus there are some variances according to build date where BMW put oil coolers on cars seemingly at random.

Besides the cooler, larger wheels, and increased speed limiter, what else (if anything) is included in the sports package?

2007 you needed Sport plus manual for Non Xi, Xi's needed Sport, manual and 18: wheels, most auto did not come from the factory with a cooler.
2008 early in the production run Non Xi cars with Sport package and Xi's with 18: wheels got the cooler regardless of transmission. 2009 on all Sport and Xi Sport with 18" wheels get the cooler. Original owners for cars with Sport could get the retrofit but no seconfd owners even if a CPO car. I think the production run for MY 2008 without the cooler was only thru production run in 2007. My 2008 Sport with Step production run Jan 08 has the cooler. |

i'm so pissed right now.. my 07 335i steptronic with sport had the oil cooler judging by the vent on the passenger side front wheel well.. but my 2010 335i non sport is missing the vents... I didnt order the sport pack because i was trying to save some money off the monthly payments..Im running 250-260 and outside temp is 59-61 (F)on my 2010 with regular driving and it's not even chipped.. my 2007 was running 240- 250( rarely) and outside temps were in the low 80's and it was even chipped with the sstt...
im trying to figure out why the dick heads at BMW do not provide all the information on their website... Damn f!@## heads...

You should have definitely known skipping ZSP would delete the cooler. For an enthusiast, research on cars goes well beyond the manufacturer's website.

I understand your point and I dont mean any disrespect but your comments doesnt make sense. i dont see the harm or disadvantage in providing information about the oil cooler. If anything it will make more people enthusiasts. Just because i'm not a born BMW enthusiast doesn't mean that i dont like BMW's. Beside what else does the sports pack offer other than the extra 20 mphtop end speed that most "enthusiasts" rarely hit that would require the oil cooler to be present in a zsp car.??? As a matter of fact BMW's own sales people didnt even know about the oil cooler. I would have gladly paid for the ZSP if i knew it came with the oil cooler. I purchased a BMW so i could enjoy it and use it to it's potential . It's BMW's job to advertise their options to me. I'm not the one who built the car.
