First Day Failure
Whats up everyone so today I'm the proud owner of a 2007 Sparkling Graphite Metallic 335i with 44,000 on the clock.. the car is beautiful and I absolutely love it, I came out of a Neon SRT-4 and an M Roadster so its a fitting vehicle for me. Picked it up in Miami and drove it around all day great, so I'm finally gonna put it away for the night and about 5 blocks from my house I stopped at a stop sign..... and dead. Ive been reading these forums for about a month so I realize the car has fuel pump issues and Ive been working on cars long enough to know thats what it was anyways. Its amazing first day, but actually not a surprise since the car has probably been sitting for a few months which just added to the fact that the HPFP is s**t anyways (at least with our s**t gas). The cars gonna be towed to BMW first thing in the morning So a couple questions anyways:
1) How long does it usually take these guys to fix the HPFP and get the car back to you? 2) Is it normal when shifting with Steptronic (AT obviously) that the car feels a little jerkier than it should? Thanks for any feedback or input guys! |

Welcome!
1) Relatively quick job these days. There's no reason the dealer couldn't turn it around within a day, depending on their availability of course. 2) Sorta normal. You can try resetting the adaptive transmission, many have reported this helps tremendously. There are lots of threads posted around on how to do this - a quick search should give you the steps. Since the car learns and adapts to how you drive, resetting this and driving the car as you normally would helps the transmission to learn your driving styles. Beyond that, the car might need a software update performed by the dealer. It's almost certainly not mechanical though.

Congrats on the car! Too bad on the fuel pump, but at least it will be a free repair. Since you are at 44k miles, try to think of all the warranty stuff you want fixed before you hit 50k!

thanks for the feedback.. I just dropped the car off and I inquired about extending the warranty and the told me right now they are transitioning from 3rd party warranties back to BMW "in-house" extended warranty so theyre gonna get back to me on the pricing, but definitely considering it.

Ouch, I would never again go third party extended warranty. I did a group purchase for my 2000 Dodge Durango for a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty with other members of a Durango forum and within 3 years the company was out of business. Never once used them for a claim (I guess that was a good thing) or got my money back. I would only trust going through a dealer backed warranty.

By the way I would have had my car back already if it was just the hpfp but in addition to that they found that the nipple clamp on the intake manifold was broken by another service before I got the car and that they had glued it back on, so in order to replace it they need to order me a new manifold which wont be here until Monday bc of the holdays.. damn Thanksgiving |

See? Mix it up even more I can do most of the stuff myself also, and probably wouldn't have bought the service/maint extension if I had known it did NOT cover breakage (nor batteries). So I got ripped for brake pads/rotors, air filters, oil/filters, maybe wiper blades.
