I'll third that. I picked up my Carrera for about $1400...
so you can easily pick up the much more awesome chrono version

Is there a major design/build quality/feature set difference between good $300-500 watches and your $1500-2000 watches? I can't hardly imagine there is as big a difference as between a Kia Sedona and a Mercedes E class as there are between watches in these two price categories but I never really considered that expensive of a watch before. Is it strictly status symbol stuff?

I personally wouldn't buy a used watch, but if you do, get the Speedy!
Here's mine at the beach. Get something besides a TAG, be different. James, what color is yours?

That would more like comparing a 20 dollar cheapo watch to a Cartier. so ya there is a huge difference. comparing a 3-5 bill watch to a 2g watch is like comparing mid low class to entry mid class. so more like comparing a v6 mustang to a 3 series |

The reason I went with a used one was because I was interested in purchasing a orginal "Moon Watch". I couldnt get one for the price I wanted, so i went with a nice used professional |

My exact watch!!!! I picked mine up in St Thomas (Virgin Islands) for $2000 all in. It is a GREAT watch. Subtle but gets noticed for being a quality piece. Highly recommend it. |

i have a paneria radiomir black seal and love it dearly.
in the states, u should be able to find a lot of nice used pieces in that price range...i am a fusspot about used though. i dislike tag, so thats out for me. panerai is out cause of price. not a big omega fan, but i love this piece for a daily big watch for the price too: omega aqua terra railmaster chrono. see link. http://www.authenticwatches.com/omseaqtera28.html |

Is that a quartz one?
I'd go Omega. They've been going up in price. I got the "James Bond" Sea Master before the movie was out for around $1,100 new from an authorized dealer. It's much more now.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

to a non watch person. an ESQ or Citizen is the same shit as Omega or Tag or Rolex besides brand. But to some1 that appreciates and understand watch especially for its movement (thats when you move out of quartz and into the world of mechanical baby) there are huge differences in craftsmanship, precision, duarability, and value retention. Some of these differences might be so small that you don't think its a big deal. For example a good rolex can keep time accuracy to +/- 30 seconds a year and inferior watches might do say 3 mins a year. This might not make a huge difference to you because it doesn't really matter in REALITY. But it matters to watch people. Car example. my girlfriend says, why do you guys spend hundreds of dollar to get a chip for your cars and improve your 0-60 times by half a second? Do you really need to be half a second faster? Its half a second to her, but its a world of difference to us because we are car people you see, so while in reality, yes half a second is not that much less, but I value that half of second to justify the cost. get it? |
