Another Powerbox Q/A Thread
Hey guys,
I have been reading on this Powerbox piggyback chip for E90 and it seems to be the real deal , A few things are unclear to me a this point is however 1. How much power should I expect on a manual 330i? ( I also have a Remus exhaust and Simota CF Intake) 2. From what I can tell it seems most of the reviews are on automatic cars , does the PBX alter shift points and if so does the better throttle response comes from that or will I see the same thing on a manual ? 3. Any adverse effect apart from augmented gas mileage? 4. How much is it and where can I get it in upstate New York or Canada? Thanks

FWIW I still think the Powerbox may be a worthwhile product on the 330i/Z4si even if it's effectively only a SprintBooster with more levels for less money. I just don't think that general claims that increasing the advance and richening the mixture provide 10 hp for all engines is particularly believable in the absence of any dyno numbers. All the "butt dyno" claims I've read here don't hold a lot of water. It's too easy to mistake an increase in throttle sensitivity for an increase in power. Look at all the folks that thought pressing the "Sport" button on Z4's increased the power - until confronted with direct info from BMW that only the throttle sensitivity was being changed. Anyway, I may very well get one of these for my Z4si only for the throttle remap, but absent any real dyno info I suspect I'll be leaving the "tune" portion of the menu alone.
