Help~My old tube TV as a computer display?
Hi, I have a almost 10 yr old tube tv (you can see the inputs and outputs in the pic) and I want to use this tv as my computer display. Is it possible and what cables will need to buy?

Not worth it IMO. With an S input, at best it is 480lines resolution. You would be limited to VGA.
You can get a 22" for 150 now. http://view.ecostemail.com/?j=fe5a15...7165047a7d1177

It only works if you computer supports s-video out, and as far as I know only Mac Laptops had this as built in feature and it was only good for doing picture slide shows or watching a video, everything else is too blurry to read and usable.

I have the same opinion as the others. It's going to look horrible, but if you wish, they do make S-Video conversion cables as well as the component conversion ones. I'd recommend the S Vid one.
Pick up one of these bad boys, and it'll fit into either of those. Only a few bucks |

I agree with the others on here. You might as get a LCD Screen for your computer. Use this tv for gaming...not for PS3 of course.

Impossible to use it as the primary display, i've had mine set up as a secondary display to stream shows while I jog but when i tried to use it to surf or read txt, you won't be able to make out anything unless the font size is like 40. Too low rez.

Now this statement makes me feel bad. I just ordered a Panasonic plasma and the thickness is about 4.5 inches. I know it's not thicker than 5" but it's close...and it's an 09 model too.

I got it for $200-300 less than what most major stores are selling it for. There's a Samsung similar to it (entry as opposed to mid-line, same size) that I bought a few months ago but ended up returning it because of the popping noise it had (like the plastic was warming up so it kept making noise). Anyhow, that tv was thinner at about 3" (ultra slim design) and lighter. If it wasn't for the noise I would have kept it. Basically I got a higher end tv (pannY) for about the same $ I would have paid for that Samsung but it's making me wonder if I made the right choice...I guess I'll have to wait and see.

So who's rockin' the oldest flat panel monitor or TV? My main screen is a Dell 2001FP 20" 1600x1200 4:3 manufactured by Sharp. It was top of the line in 2001 when it came out. I paid $471 with a 25% off coupon from Bensbargains.net.

unless you set your system fonts to the biggest size and have 20/20 vision, you won't be able to read any text off the TV screen. I've done it before via a S-video cable to watch a movie.

I have a bottom of the line 46" 1080p panny plasma that was $900 and it looks amazing. My parents just picked up a 65" v10 thats getting installed on thursday its gonna be a monster I had to talk them out of getting the 8500 series led tv. Plasma's are untouchable as far as picture quality goes. You made the right purchase
