Clear Fluid Leak??

Drove about 300 miles today in my 07 335i E90. Got home and parked in the garage. Left about 1/2 hour later to find a rather large (basketball) size fluid spill on my garage floor. Definitely from the BMW. Some type of oil and not water. Clear in color. Appears to have come from the mid center of the car right in front of the catalytic converters. Any idea what this might be?

Thanks,
Rob

LOL.

Nope, no AC today. That's what I thought at first (water/condensation), but no. Some type of fluid with consistency of oil.

Sounds like brake fluid. Check your reservoir and see if she's low.

Hmmm... Yes the leak is at the tranny area. Brake fluid shows "ok" on the display.

I think if it was cold out it may just be condensation. Clear liquids that dont smell just dont seem right.

Search "rear main seal." See if that's the issue.

OP, any updates on what's caused the leak?
I've noticed the same thing happening to my 2006 330i, after it has been parked for 5 days in the cold weather. Its an oily liquid, light brown to transparent in color. I had my oil changed about 5000 miles ago, and would assume if it was the oil leaking, it would be of a darker color that what im getting.
Im out of warranty, but only have 40K miles on it.

I had a problem with a clear, odorless liquid leaking around the back of the engine. Prognosis: Mechatronics sealing sleeve leak. Dealer replaced the sealing sleeve and fixed leak.

part nos.
24 34 7 588 725 sealing sleeve
24 11 7 571 235 gasket
24 11 7 520 713 screw plug
83 22 0 406 929 1/2 liter fluid

Tech said he's seen this before but was surprised to see it in my car with only 8,000 miles.

Hope this helps ...

Indeed turned out to be a transmission leak at the sealing sleeve. The dealer replaced the items mentioned in zucci's response above. Repairs were fortunately handled under warranty. I always inquire what repairs would have cost me without warranty and my SA advised around $800.

Thanks for the update! How long did the repair take?
Taking my car in next week.

Seriously considering getting aftermarket warranty.. I love the car, but 3 months out of warranty and with only 40K miles it is already starting to give me troubles.

Any chance this is what you might have seen under your car? I pulled the undertrays, upper cowling, and intake box to check all the clutch, steering, and engine lines and seals. Definitely not engine oil dripping out of my two-month-old gearbox:

The dealer repaired the leak and replaced the drive in my nav system all in a day. I don't know how my dealer does it sometimes, but they are religious about getting my car in and out on the same day.
