Retrofit question - and I did search

Ok not sure if this exists but here is a wacky question.

Could a 2007 335i be retrofitted with the 2009 hood in order to get the new mtech bumper?

I know 2009 made the kidneys not part of the hood which looks better imho.

Just a random thought to see if it was possible or if anyone has done it.

If not oh well.

And yes I searched for retrofit 2009 - 2007

I don't think you need to change the hood. The mtech bumper was available in Europe and not in the US because of DOT crash regulations and that it didn't have the amber reflectors, but you don't need to change the hood to install the bumper. Good news for ya!

yes, you can retrofit LCI parts. you're correct that you will be needing the hood along with the grilles and new bumper.

i believe he's talking about the LCI E90, not the coupe, as he states the current grilles are now one piece, separate from the hood. the grilles are a different shape, so the indenture in the hood is different, resulting in changing the hood.

Do you know if it is all direct bolt on's by chance?

I also looked and the head lights need to be changed as well it looks like.

So that is bumper, hood. grill and lights to do a gen 2 by my guess.

The lights changed in style, but they physically are the same dimensions, so you could use yours. Both with headlights and taillights, you will need to make changes to get rid of errors because of LED signals if you decide to go that route.

Ok the is good to know. Thanks

As for LED the ECU actually has a option to turn them on from looking at the program??? go fig why they did not install them to start.

Same thing for my E46 M3. came with iridescent and changed to LED. Just had to go into the ECU and turn them on.

I don't know of a way to tell the ECU you have them, but perhaps it's possible. The main way I know of is to add in a resistor to trick the system. Oh, and my post was a little misleading after reading it... The headlights will physically fit fine (I've done it, both halogens and now xenons). I think if you wanted LCI tails you would need a new trunk lid.
