New Member Question - Canadian ED and break-in?
Hello all,
I've been following all the topics on e90post for quite sometime now and feel the need to join in. I'll introduce myself as a fellow car enthusiust from Edmonton, AB, Canada ( I know, not many of us up here), who drives an 04' S2000 (damn...I love this car). I've been hearing some rumours about European Delivery becoming available to Canadians sometime soon (Yes, Yes, do a search... I'm posting more to say hello, then to have this question answered). But the question I really am curious about is, "When you decide on a European Delivery, and you drive to your destination to ship. What prep goes into the car before they place it on the ship?" I know people have been talking about spring spacers being left in after delivery, but am wondering, is that something that is installed right before shipping? Or is it something that is put on directly from factory? If you decide on a European delivery, does all of the pre-ship prep work not go on? Also, there is the long winded question and answers to the ..... oh don't say it......"break-in". If in Europe, don't you get the chance to take the car on BMW's in-house road track? Isn't this bad for the vehicle.....(assuming you decide on the light break-in procedure? Also, the autobahn can't be anygood with 5km on the odometer. Anyways, any thoughts........ Oh by the way......... to those of you who already own their e9X's |

Hi and welcome,
ED has been available in Canada for a while (not sure how long but its available). The big problems is you won't save any money like in the US and it comes out of the dealers normal allocations (unlike US) so no good deals to be had and hard to get the dealer to do it until they have surplus spots. But if all you want is the trip to Germany to have a car instead of a rental than go for it. Break in is break in and if you want to push the car and have fun on the autobahn then forget about the break in and hope that BMW has breakin rules more for safety of breaking in tires and brakes vs the engine! If you do ED on a 335 I can tell you from my recent experience that keeping it below 4K RPM is easy and still lots of fun, its keeping it below 160km/hr thats the problem (190 came up way to easy on the QE2). Hope this info helps a bit.

Thanks arbitrage.
That was exactly what I was looking for. I didn't realize that the car came out of the dealers normal allocation. That's no good for us. Still looking for an answer about prep for shipping. Is it different with an ED vs. just being built and shipped? |

Welcome to the forum!
I own a 2004 S2000 also - as well as a 2007 BMW 335i Coupe 6MT that I picked up yesterday. If you have any questions about the 335i or about comparing it to the S2000, I would be happy to answer them |

Well....since we're on this subject too....how does the 335's transmission compare to our S's. My biggest fear is that I keep hearing how "rubbery" the e9X's have been. I love the S2000's transmission. You feel everything and it is so smooth!! Engine could use some more torque though.....
My brother has a 05 ZHP Coupe (the M-sport model) and its tranny is okay compared to mine. Is the 07's much different? |

The shifter in the S is one of the best shifters on the planet. The BMW honestly doesn't even come close. There's a lot of M3 owners on S2ki who also own S2000s that can attest to this.

I prefer the shorter throws and more direct feel of the S2K's shifter, but the E90's is far from bad and is getting better as it ages.
