Parents Car Broken Into... Need some Help cleaning up a image

Hey everyone...

My parents car was recently broken into at a 24 hour fitness. The thieves smashed the window and took my mom's purse. They used her ATM card at a KFC and a Wendy's. The KFC had a camera that snapped a video of their car and matched it up to the time of the charge they made on my mom's ATM card. I have been trying to clean the image up but have been having difficulty. If anyone can clean the image of their license plate and their faces that would be great.

Looks like a Mustang, pretty crappy photo though, looks like there was two people. Seriously though why would she leave her purse in the car for anyone to just walk by and see it. To use an ATM card don't you need a PIN number? KFC and Wendy's they must have been pretty hungry.

hope someone can help you. how did you get the video at kfc the manager must have been cool? they usually give tapes to cops first.

Might need a few more frames of the license plate. There is a program or two out there that can combine multiple shitty pixelated images into a readable one.

The police said they would go to the KFC and look at the tape when the investigator got to my case. But they told me they are behind and probably won't be able to get to my case for another 6 months to a year. Also they told me that most of these cases do NOT get solved as their is a lack of officers to conduct this type of investigation. So it is up to me to speed things along. If anyone knows how to enhance the pictures so I can see the license plate and their faces that would be awesome. I can then pass this along to the investigator to speed up his job and hopefully he will do something about it. The ironic thing is that when I spoke to the KFC people they said if I had not come for the video that it probably would have been erased.

all jokes aside, the resolution is terrible. not a whole lot can be garnered from it. you'd probably have better luck looking for a shitty old red mustang in that area.

you watch too many movies.... theres no way you can clear up a low resolution image. the pixels are what they are and theres only a certain number of them..

I have credit cards compromised on a regular basis due to work related reasons that are beyond this thread. The scum almost always start with small purchases (coffee shops seem to be a favorite). Then, when they have confidence, they go for the big buy.

And as a general FYI, some ATM cards also function as a credit card (no PIN required). This feature can be a very bad thing, and anyone who is not sure of how their card works should check with their bank or credit union.

I'd say most/all ATM cards can now also function as a credit card (no pin) - pretty standard for a long time now.

Assuming they're actually informed of the usual way this works, it's all part of the game.

After you get a credit card you normally go and make a small purchase at a gas station or a 7-eleven just to make sure the card works. After that, you're free to go make bigger purchases as long as they're in a reasonable price range.

If you're trying to use the card for a big purchase (i.e. computer, tv) you won't be able to test it out. A card will get auto-rejected for any reasonable expensive item if a very cheap purchase has been made the same day. If you don't believe me test it out. The next time you're buying a tv go buy one soda in the morning on that card. Then, don't purchase anything else until 2pm and go try and buy the tv. Your card will get rejected no matter how much credit you have available.

Anyways, that said...

There is NO way to enhance the pixels. As someone said, if you had a series of shots there are programs that combine them into a clearer image, but not one clear enough to help you judging by your source material. I'm sorry to say but you're fucked in the photo department. Just call it a day, eat the loss, and move on. Even if you find the guys, the charges won't stick (trust me). You CAN go for some old fashioned vigilante justice, but then you open yourself to litigation. Either way, it's lose lose.
