Sensory deprivation sleepwear?
It's getting very bad. I need something along the line of a headset to block all the lights and sounds so I can sleep at night. Covers and foam ear plugs don't cut it. Over the weekend, it was so bad I had to sleep under the stairs in the unheated closet next to the outside wall in the snow-covered cabin to get any rest.

I fell asleep standing up once...
Sleep problems are miserable...have you tried any drugs yet?

I feel for you. I have only had this problem once about 5 years ago. In 4 days I may have had 6 hours. I was hearing things. Seeing things. It was approaching scary. Problems with a women was the culprit. My friends thought I was doing coke or something.
My sister uses Ambien. I have heard some nightmarish stories about it's side effects though. I really don't get your sleepwear question. Re-arrange your bedroom? Paint it? Mine is chocolate brown..supposed to be a relaxing, go nite nite color. Seems to work. I also have a rain machine. I can't sleep w/o it. Change your routine. |

I like to use soma sometimes for sleep medication. My mind doesn't feel foggy the next morning with this.
Try doing stuff to relax yourself before sleeping. Glass of milk maybe or take a hot shower. Why are you so sleep deprived anyways? |

I'm actually thinking of going to a sleep clinic.
Try ambien, works for me, but it makes me goofy! When I first started taking it, I would wake up the next morning and not remember things from the night before. It's like, not that I would TOTALLY not be able to remember, but something would have to trigger my memory in order for me to be like, oh yeah. Still happens to me every now and then. The wifey left me a note a few months ago in the morning, and at the end it jokingly said, "thanks for the orgasm." And I was like, huh....ooooh right.

anyone that does the ambien thing, i feel sorry for you. that shit is highly addictive and if you develop a routine of taking it nightly like i did once, if you don't take it, you lie awake like a zombie all night. took me about 2 months to ween myself off of it. my best advice is stay far, far away from ambien. tylenol simply sleep works well and has no addictive side effects. that's what i take when i can't sleep now.
in response to OP, try one of these. we have one in our bedroom and use it nightly. my girlfriend and i have different schedules...she likes to go to bed early, i like to stay up for a while and watch tv. she was complaining about the tv noise keeping her awake, so i bought one of those sleep background noise generators. both of our quality of sleep improved dramatically. it does well at blocking out all background noise. |

Blake is right, when I don't take it, I stay awake until like 5 or 6 in the morning. But then, I stay awake anyway, which is why I started taking it in the first place. I take it probably 5 out of 7 nights.
But, I personally don't think it's addictive, or at least I don't feel that I am addicted. I think it's kind of like pot, habitual and habit forming, but not straight-up addictive. I can stop any time I want....I swear....no, really. ![]() As for OTC sleep aids. I just can't take them. I have restless leg syndrome (yes it's real dammit, lol) and it intensifies it by like X1000. Good luck OP, I know how much not sleeping SUCKS!

Sounds like a form of sleep anxiety...stressed out? I was. I wasn't able to get anymore than 3-4 hrs of sleep a night, despite being in bed for 7-9 hrs at a time. Anything would keep me up.
Just a suggestion, if it's applicable, try to take your mind off of shit. Fucking helps the most imo, no joke.

try melatonin. it's dirt cheap and can really do the trick. it's only meant to give you deeper sleep, but it also helps some to actually get to sleep

Stress sometimes KEEPS me awake. Its waking up after falling asleep because of a disturbance that I have a hard time with.
I'm a very light sleeper. My wife snores like a freaking train, and our insurance won't approve her for anything more than anti-histamines (sp?) My wife had a sleep study done. The person in the other room that night had to come back another time because they couldn't sleep because my wife was so loud. Typically now, I sleep in my son's room, and he sleep with mom. If someone touches me while I'm asleep, I'm not asleep any more. Light coming from the neighbor's house, or a full moon will wake me. My wife likes to watch TV in bed. I can block out most of the sound with ear plugs, but the pulsing light off the walls echoes in my head. Something like a helmet that blocks ears and eyes. I'm starting to fantasize about a casket, after that night in the closet. I miss sleeping with my wife, but I can't function if I'm awakened 6 times in a 7 hour night. The increased cortisol levels reak havoc with my blood glucose levels, and I'm a bear all day long. |

Seriously you need a strong nightcap before you go to bed. When I cant sleep my favorite is a double shot of vodka in grapefruit juice, with a splash of lime. It knocks me out feeling great and I wake up refreshed.

So, when you wake up, you are up for the night? That sucks.
I just did a google and found this: http://www.sleepphones.com/ It looks like a fuzzy headband to keep your ears warm in the winter, but it has speakers built in to it. Put that on to keep out the noise, and a dark mask to keep out the light? Maybe you two could agree on a fair time for her to turn the TV off, and if she doesn't agree to that, she should watch TV in the family room until she's ready for bed. Sounds like she's not being very sensitive to your issues. EDIT: Does your wife only snore when she's on her back? My friend's boyfriend snores like a train too, and she saw this thing about sewing a tennis ball in the back of his jammies. She said it worked, kept him from rolling on to his back.
