Going from `08 328 stock E90 to loaded `10 328 convertible E93...opinions please....
Hi all,
I've owned my very basic jet black 08 328i nearly 2 years. Been a fantastic car, no headaches..... I visited my local BMW Center this past weekend and fell in love with a loaded '10 328i space gray convertible with gray leather seats. It has the premium package, leather seats, satellite radio, blue tooth, comfort access, heated seats, keyless entry, iPod, etc. I'm going to be 40 this year and want a "midlife crisis" car. LOL. Anyway, they have many of these E93 convertibles in various colors (the space gray was prettiest IMHO) on the lot and are marking them down now $3,000 plus offering a halfway decent finance rate of 2.9%. Should I do it? Should I wait? Any major changes in the E93 for 2011 that I should know about? Opinions please. Thanks in advance! Jay

Since we are talking mid life crisis, what about upping the ante to 335? I think you will have tons of fun with the convertible, though. That should be awesome.

Lots of info about the 2011 E93 on the forum, a quick search will show you the differences between the 2010 and 2011 E93.

The 328i convertibe is going to be a lot slower than your 328i sedan because of the significant extra weight.
Get a base 335i sedan with xenons and you will never regret !

Yes, there are major changes for MY2011, one of which would be the new N55 turbo engine for the coupe and convert. Cosmetically the face lift is hardly distinguishable from the current version, but imo I'd rather order one of those since their production is about to begin. Besides, having owned an e90 328i, you probably can tell that the heavier convert puts much more strains on the N52 engine. You won't be satisfied with the power. The reason the dealer offers that $3000 discount is probably to clear out the remainder 2009/2010 to make room for the 2011 335i convert and coupe. And you won't save $3000 by buying a 2010. Because of the short model life of MY 2010, you'll lose half of that on depreciation in just a few months anyway.

Thanks all so far!!! My car does seem fast and I would freak if I had to drive something slower and pay $400/more a month. Hmmmm....
I just did some research and it just appears the big changes are affecting the 335i with its new engine? It sounds as if the 328i, if available, may just have cosmetic changes, if any....

If you've got your heart set on a 'vert, get the E93. It's not about going as fast as you possibly can. It's about going fast in the open air and enjoying the ride. Mine was a 'mid-life crisis' car too I think. And yes, it helps. |

If possible, 335i convertible. Sounds like the 328i you saw was loaded anyway, and the final sticker price between the two really does not differ tremendously. Plus you'll love the power delivery
I agree that the convertible is not that much slower, especially when you aren't going to be in an FIAA tourney or anything of the sort (unless you are, then hold onto your sedan ). And I've never owned a convertible, but the time I have spent in one was very enjoyable. I think that would be a very nice choice.
