High beam assistant and roadside parking lamps.

I've been reading the manual, and for the life of me I cant figure out these functions. The roadside parking lamp just turns on turn signals, and high beam assist just turns on high beams if you push the switch away from you, or flashes them if you pull it towards you. Can someone explain how these features work?

Also, my i-drive menu doesn't seem to have High beam assistant selection?

I don't think high beam assistant is an option on US 3ers.

High beam assist is only an option in the US for 2010s. The manual for the roadside lights is not written very well. You must turn the vehicle off AND open the door AND THEN press the light switch in the appropriate direction. The manual leaves out the detail that the door must be open when you "park " the car.

also be very careful using the roadside parking assist. These lights will not turn off when the car goes to sleep. You will come back to a dead battery if you leave them on for a while or by mistake.

Mine is a 2010 335. I do see some kind of sensor in the rear view window, but I guess since I don't have this option in the i-drive menu, my car isn't equipped with it?

It is an OPTION so if you did not buy it you don't have it. My guess is that since it is not in your Idrive that you did not buy it.

Why?
The lights are intended to be left on when parking and not turn off. The car is designed to handle the load.

They are designed to be left on for a short period of time when parking briefly not for an extended period of time. The manual even states this as I recall. All I am saying is that it WILL drain the battery so use it sparingly or you will come back to a dead car. If you think that you are going to leave them on over night and come back and the car start right up then you are gravely mistaken. All I said was USE CAUTION I did not say don't use them .... though I can not really see a reason to use them in the US.

When I turn the car off, and then listen to the radio for literally 30 seconds, the yellow battery light comes on... I'm pretty sure you're not going to make it through the night.

There's no option in the iDrive for it. It's always on. It's also part of the Premium package if you got it.

I guess what he meant is the auto-dim sensor instead.

I would think the LCI's LEDs would be easier on the battery. I've used the "euro-park" (as I call it, I'd see it a lot in Germany) function for up to a few hours, and I've never had a problem. This was at -10C/11F, and it cranked the diesel afterwards without problem...the REST function probably uses more power than roadside park lights...
