Performance Chips

I was wondering what the benifits of a performance chip is and if it is worth getting for my bmw 325i sport pkg...im thinking it adds power....or is there anything else outhere to add power that will do the job bang for the buck.

thanks

bms power box. won't add much hp but will give you better throttle i think. from what i've heard, if i still had a 325i, i'd get it.

definitely get it. i have it on my 325 and it makes the car feel totally different. the throttle remapping is what it should have been at factory!

Interesting question as someone recently mentioned the performance chip to me as well. more expensive than the BMS powerbox but is it the same thing. He said it adds about 20 hp and 20 ft of torque in the low end rpm range. Is this the same as the BMS or different? About twice the price at 599.00

Thoughts anyone?

I'd like to see some proof of those 20hp/20tq gains, and which chip they are talking about. It's probably someone talking out of their ass and/or trying to make a sale. The only proven chips/tunes for our cars are the LET flash and BMS pbx.

+1 on BMS PBX. Piggyback tune, completely PNP and removable/installable within minutes.

BMS powerbox for sure. I have it on my 330. It gets more power than than 325, oviously, but it is absolutely worth it. The chip your friend is probably talking about is a flash tune or somehting and it advertises HP/tq at the crank. NOT the wheels. The powerbox is WHP.

It is night and day difference with the box in. I keep mine on map 3 at all times, paired with an AFE intake and air scoops. working on exhaust now.

best tune for your money absolutely, and you dont have to ship off your ecu.

Definitely go with BMS PBX. I've had mine for a week now. Really loved how the throttle is more responsive. Go Get one!

Has anyone looked into powerchips? http://www.powerchipgroup.com/index.asp

They've got chips for the 325i and the 330i...I still have a warranty, so I'm not going to mess with it yet, but I think I might do it when it expires.

I looked into these... says something like 20hp and 15tq....but this is at the crank. and its like 650 bucks...

the pbx is 270, and is at the wheels. powerchip is ripping you off and its a flash, so you have to send them your ecu.

looked into those extensively. and its not worth it. plus very $$$$$$$

Great info guys, my 325XI is kind of slugish and I think this is definately worth it.

Does this mod void my warranty completely? Theres not much remaining on it so I'm not too concerned...

Also, where do you guys suggest I purchase a BMS PBX from?

Where do you notice the increased power? In the higher or lower RPM's?

Thanks for the help.

The PBX has a slight tune which adds about 10WHP but the most noticeable difference is in the throttle response meaning that your gas pedal will be more sensitive to your foot...It is undetectable when set to map 0, unless they go looking for it and physically see it. The only way it can void your warranty is if the dealer can prove that it is the cause of the problem. Buy it from one of the vendors on here.

Its not that much on the 325i....

More like 3-4 hp.

But I've been running mine for about 3 months now on Map 3 and I love it. It is a must have for any e90...

PBX is the way to go. If I was you I'd also add a performance exhaust and a decent intake.

A 20hp gain on a 06 325i is very possible. The 325 has the exact same engine as the 328/330. The difference between the 328/330 is the intake mainfold and the engine software. The only difference between a 325 and 328 is engine software. All 3 cars share the same N52B30 engine.

325=215hp
328=230hp
So a 20hp gain is not impossible at all.

just curious to why someone would say only a 3-4 hp gain and someone else says up to 20 hp...seems like a large range to me....

The BMS Power Box remaps the throttle mapping for better throttle response, and an increase in horsepower and torque. The Power Box features easy installation and removal, and gas pedal switching between 7 performance maps. The Power Box shows power gains from 8-10 horsepower and 8-10 Ft./Lbs. of torque at the rear wheels on a dyno.
