yes, I have because I keep good care of my car...It pays off. When I traded in my car, all the freaking CA went outside to check out my car (exellent condition). Even the Sales manager came out because I don't think any of them believed a 5 yrs old car could look that good. If you don't get KBB value, consider doing a private sales.

KBB is cash value, but not necessarily market value. Local demand and things like the color of your car play a factor. My 7 year old Boxster is immaculate, but they are a dime a dozen and there are plenty sitting on used car lots so I know I am going to get less than KBB.

This is true. I got 2000k less than KBB value for my '03 VW Passat W8 because there is no real demand for that car. So I took the minor hit and got a nice '06 330i

I've gotten amounts over KBB for cars from dealers, it just depends on the cars, the market, the deal you're trying to work, etc. There are so many factors that go into what you can get for a trade that it difficult to say what could happen in a particular situation. KBB simply gives you a good idea of the "ballpark" you're in if you are looking to trade/sell.

I got over KBB trade-in for my 2004 X3, it was like 26,500, but they gave me 27,000.

KBB and Edmunds should only be used as guides, but since they don't buy the cars and will always be behind the realtime auction reports that most dealers are using.People need to be more realistic about the condition of their own cars as well.Dealers seem to appraise between fair and good, but rarely excellent even on '05 & '06's.It also can depend if they have a buyer lined up for your car,so they might offer better money than normal. It also helps if the customer can get independent numbers from Car Max or Auto Nation or someone willing to buy their car outside of a dealership.Take it to the dealership last,it's much easier to decide who to give it to so you're not stuck at the last minute.

Dealer wanted to give me KBB but CarMax said they would give me $500 over KBB. Sold it private party for like $2,000 more.

Sold my Ghia for almost a 50% profit. As stated earlier, the market as well as supply and demand for your car will dictate what someone will pay

All sites like KBB are flawed in their approach. It is impossible to write a mathematical formula to determine what something is worth.

Reporting sites such as Manheim are more accurate indicators because something is worth what someone will pay, no more-no less.
