Breitling Watch
Anyone own one? I was thinking of getting the Breitling Colt II Chrono.
Problem is, I get tons of compliments on my $200 watch, is it worth getting on for 10x that price? You don't really buy a watch anymore for keeping time, cell phones do the job. You buy them more as an accessory.

Personal preference, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a quartz watch.... unless it was the Emergency model (because that one is just plain bad-ass)..
Trust me when I say that in the end people will question its authenticity because it "ticks". And those same people who think they know something (emphasis on think) will only associate nice watches with mechanical movements and assume yours is a Chinese knock-off. *shrug* If 2k is your budget, there are lots of nice mechanical options out there... but you'll have to move away from what are concidered the more well known fashion brands. Nothing against Breitling.. I've owned a couple in the past. |

Its all preference, as I stated. I guess I personally find better "value" (if I can call it that) in a hand decorated/often times hand assembled mechanical watch movment moreso than a mass produced quartz movment. Or rather, I don't have as much of a problem justifying the extra expense. But you really shouldn't listen to me... I have what some people would call "a bit of a watch problem". |

I think that would be a very nice watch. Brietlings are generally rather large watches, and I think they give a very prestigious appearance. I also have a watch problem. In my opinion though Rolex is the standard. If you are into the mechanics of the watch, there are not many manufactures that make their own movements. In reality though, a quartz watch with an ETA movement will be MUCH more accurate than an automatic watch. I would consider adding the watch you mentioned to my collection though, and for a Breitling that is a good price. The other thing I like about Rolex's though is that they actually hold their value pretty well. If you keep a Rolex for about 5 years, it is worth roughly what you paid for it in trade on a new Rolex. Just something to keep in mind.

who cares what other people think. If they think it's fake because it's quartz then they're ignorant and don't know the first thing about watches, which opens them up to being ridiculed.
I'm on my 4th Breitling, they are great. I have a seawolf chrono right now (superquartz). I've already had a skyland, which is, in a way, like an automatic version of the seawolf. I got the seawolf because I like the brushed finish (polished pics up WAY too many scratches) and I don't have to worry about keeping it wound as I usually wear my sub. And if you're hesitant of buying the Breitling because the $200 watch you have now gets compliments already, well, then all I can tell you is you're buying the watch for the wrong reasons.

If I were you, I would hold out for a used Omega or better yet a Rolex. With some careful shopping and not a whole lot more money you can get a better piece. It will retain its value much better than the Breit. They also are not renowned for build toughness and customer service. Heres something I pulled up. Worth a look anyway.

+1, what is that? I've been kinda-sorta considering a watch but just can't justify a Tag, Breitling or other high-end watch right now.
Would your Uncle do a groupbuy? Edit: I found it. Citizen Calibre 8700 BL8045-56E, MSRP $750. Group buy question still stands though. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the stones. If it didn't have the diamonds, I'd buy it.

so cause it will 'probably' more "comments" it's a 'better' buy?? and you're buying that to wear strictly for business with ties???? probably gets more "comments" because rolex would never put stones like that on a black case

to me, i think Breitling is a tad overrated... For me its either Omega, Cartier, or Baume Mercier. I go Swiss Army if I dont intend on going into my wallet. These brands produce the best IMHO.

Well, for starters the guys in that link I provided. Been into quality Swiss watches for some time now and its a reccuring story. I dont feel they match up to Rolex. But dont take offense, Im biased. My Submariner with 135i.

call me wierd, but i hate seeing people wearing watches that are disproportionate to their body size.... like really tiny dudes wearing monstrous watches... makes me crack up a lil bit.

Here you go. Sub is 40mm. Its not a big, bulky lump. Like you, Im not a fan of the super large stuff. I tried on the Seadweller Deep Sea a couple months ago and hated it. Thats a much bulkier piece than the Sub.
