Who's "hating" on Apple and the iPad?

Sure, the iPad seems "neat", but to any tech junkie, it's a big disappointment due to Apple's refusal to include features that would work so well on it. It's something that Apple does a lot, but they get away with it because people will buy "neat" stuff just so they can tell their friends that they "got the iPadzz lolz OMGGG!!!one1!!", or maybe just so they can start a neat thread on their neat forum so everyone can S each others' D's because they all have iPads and therefore are cooler than everyone else.

No one was hating here. If you want the opinions of people who work with this stuff for a living (meaning computers and high-tech gadgets), be prepared for views that may not parallel yours.

To say that I've probably never touched one or don't have the money to buy one, I think you're just reinforcing what I said above. I have played with one, and did find it "neat"; however, like many others, it left a lot to be desired in the FUNCTIONAL category. This is important to some people. I don't buy electronics as status symbols (you obviously do); I buy them so that I can enjoy them while they are functioning to fit my wants/needs (which don't include impressing strangers), so I couldn't give two shits if it's "neat".

And, by the way, your mom is "looser"; I'm a "loser". Lurn 2 spehl.

Thanks.

They knew there was a 3G model. The WiFi only models are $499, $599, and $699. The WiFi+3G are $629, $729, and $829. We all knew this model structure since January. Current owners don't have anything dated. They just decided they didn't need 3G so they went with the WiFi only models.

Status symbols! My iPhone is the most productive mobile device I have ever owned, and Im sure anyone who has one would say the same. For my iPad, I will use it at sales meetings, at home on the couch, in my car and on vacations. I will end up using it more than my 3k laptop.

So its not a STATUS SYMBOL! Im in the IT industry and know that this device will change the personal computing world. If you cant see that or admit to it, then your ignorant.

You realize the iPad is simply a large iTouch right?

You realize that a Netbook is much better than an iPad at a cheaper price?

You're in the IT industry, but can't recognize these facts? The iPad has not changed anything in the personal computing world. It is nothing revolutionary. The products that will be coming out by HP and Microsoft could be worthwhile, however.

Like the HP Slate that was just canned? Or the MS courier that also just hit the garbage bin? Do you wonder why they canceled these projects? Cause they knew they couldn't compete with the iPad.

Also, I was not comparing the iPad to anything else like a netbook, even though it is faster, and easier to use. It is a different type of device.

Anyway, Im excited to get mine, and its interesting that people who dont want one feel the need to bash it or compare it to other not like products!

But it is what it is. I know Ill love mine and use it ever day.

Ignorance is bliss huh? You couldn't be more wrong. If you want to at least get it right, try saying the iPhone is a limited, stripped down iPad. At least you'll sound like you know what you are talking about.

Man, so much anger over such a simple post. The guy's just pumped that the 3G iPad is coming out, good for him. I don't have one, but think it's a great product. And btw, Apple bringing this out after the original iPad release is not an attempt to screw people. It was well known that it was coming out later, so nobody should feel duped.

Hmm. New 13.3" Mac Book Pro for $1049 or a Ipad 3g for $600+? Think I'll get the MBP for now.

"In the IT industry" doesn't mean you know shit about tech by default. Hell, our marketing and sales guys are the most technically inept people we have, but they do their job well. Since you mentioned sales meetings, I'm going to assume that's your area of expertise.

Also, you state that you can't believe you're replying to such an immature thread. The first hint of immaturity came with:

Right, it's nothing revolutionary, and won't change the landscape of the personal computing world. It's less of a "computer" in the mainstream sense than a "gadget". I don't think it would really take that much on Apple's part to make the iPad a truly great device, but for now, they're happy with people gobbling up sales just based on the "neat" factor. Maybe they'll focus on increasing the functionality next, or maybe they won't. It's their call. They've got a product that sells just fine, regardless of why, so that should be considered a successful product. However, once again, let's reiterate that it's nothing revolutionary.

Microsoft has canceled their plans to release a competitor, and HP's roadmap is on hold until the Palm deal is done.

You are misinformed, unless you've got access to some inside line that no one else does. HP hasn't canned their device just yet. It's officially on hold. Also, there are other reasons why projects get canned. Sometimes the juice just isn't worth the squeeze. If this segment was seen as a potential revolutionary step forward, competitors would not be canning their parallel projects. Just some food for thought there.

I still fail to concede that the iPad is what it should be. I think Apple could have done much better with this device, but then again, I don't think I'm the demographic they were aiming for with this release. Hence why I don't think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

It'll be a great device for some people. I'm just not one of those. If they'd pack it with features which would get me to consider obsoleting my laptop completely, I'd be on board. Until then, it's just not something I'd consider.

Yeah the release timeline was clear. People who bought the 3G-less iPad knew there was a 3G version coming out, or at least they should have.

That's the thing. It's NOT a laptop replacement. In fact, you can't even turn it on and use the device without connecting it to a computer first. No, not everyone NEEDS one. In fact, I'm sure nobody needs this device. But that's not the point. It really excels at content consumption. I love reading on the device. Browsing websites and going through my RSS feeds on the iPad is so much better than doing so on a laptop, desktop, or mobile device.

It's much more portable than a netbook. Thin, light, doesn't benefit from being on a desk, and the battery life is unbelievable. It's really the device between a laptop and smartphone. Whether you need that in-between device depends on how you use computers daily.

One thing it it's really great for is drawing/sketching. I have a Cintiq, and I'd rather use the iPad for casual drawing. Being able to take it anywhere makes it a perfect digital sketchbook.

Exactly. And there's currently nothing I need it for that wouldn't be covered either by my phone or my laptop.

When I describe what I think the iPad "should be", I'm painting an image of what it would take for me to bite on the device (even though it differs greatly from what Apple thinks the iPad "should be"). For me, there's no reason to get it. I think we're making the same point from different sides of the issue.

But I think with how advanced smart phones are getting, along with how small and remedial netbooks are getting, there's really less and less space for a niche in between the laptop and the smart phone. This gap is closing as time goes on.... So, instead of having three devices to suit my needs, I can do just fine with a laptop and a phone. I don't know if I'll ever really want anything in between.

I had a chance to play around with the iNapkin, it felt incredibly similar to an iphone except in size and the only thing that i liked (and liked a lot) was an app that showed you the layout of an F1 circuit and the cars live position around it/ times/ positions during a race.

But iam a bit more smarter than jumping on every new fad these days. The iphone and Macbook will do me fine.
