Sorry, another speeding ticket thread

I got my first ever speeding ticket yesterday. It was early in the morning and I was the only car on the road, but somehow he got me at 74 in a 55.

Now my question... The municipal court offers a deal where you can double the fine and have the citation amended to "inattentive driving" which is apparently a non-moving violation. I'm not worried about the fine, but will this help my insurance rates stay where they are?

Also, don't know if this helps, but Kansas does not use a points system for tracking infractions, just a series of rules regarding license suspension, etc.

Yep, your insurance will not hear about it, just like parking tickets. However if you get enough of those the court is less likley to let you do it as they know what all the unspecified non-moving violations really are.
But like I said, do it. They have a similar rule (kinda legit) and I use it every time unless I fight it.

Yes, it definitely sucks. I guess I can't say I didn't deserve it though. Live and learn.

That suckss...a friend of mine got an 86 in a 55 two days go...in Jersey they have a similar thing to inattentive driving...it's called an unsafe driving charge I believe...you're allowed to use it 2 times but on the 3rd time...all the charges previously will pile on top of each other and go back on your record which would most likely result in revocation of a driver's license

If you don't get that many tickets, I'd definitely stick with the inattentive driving charge...g'luck!!

Never speed when you're the only car on the road...

Points are used by DMV for suspension purposes, not insurance. If insurance also has a system using points, they are not the points that are controlled by the court (i.e. court says there was a certain type of violation, insurance takes it from there. Manslaughter, DUI, those are biggies obviously). They are more for rating. My friend took a deal in NJ yesterday, only $389 to get it down to 0 points. What a bargain.

Now, that's great advice!

Thinking about it, four out of only the five times I have been stopped for speeding in my life have been when I was "the only car on the road".

Uh, the simplest solution would be to not speed in the first place. I can't believe all the people crying and moaning when they get a ticket for speeding when they were in fact speeding. This just cracks me up.

Try to obey the law and you'll see that nobody wants your money. The guy drove 74 in a 55. What do you expect the police to do? Give him some flowers?

Just reduce it to inattentive driving. That's what I just did for a tailgating ticket. It sucks, but whta are you going to do about it? Now, if you know for a fact you weren't going 74, fight it.

I notice you're in NJ--my friend could have paid $84 to dispose of the summons, but he decided to fight it. Instead, it cost $389. There was a $250 fee for "fighting it." I think it was an "assessment fee."

NJ sucks... Happened to me once in my old Camry... I went to fight the ticket just to get smacked in the face with a even bigger fee but no points....

Haven't had a ticket since... I plan on keeping it that way too...
