Horrible Corvette accident in LA

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lano...-4-killed.html

Video in link

Four people were killed early Thursday when a sports car crashed near Van Nuys airport, police said.

The yellow 2007 Chevy Corvette was traveling at high speeds when it hit a guard rail on Roscoe Boulevard shortly after midnight, said Officer Gregory Baek of the Los Angeles Police Department. The car skidded several hundred feet, crossed some railway tracks and came to rest upside down, he said.

The bodies of two men and a woman were found scattered around the car, he said. It was not immediately clear whether they were passengers or pedestrians.

A fourth body, found pinned inside the vehicle, was believed to be that of the driver, Baek said. He could not say whether it was a man or a woman.

The crash left car and body parts scattered along a half-mile stretch of Roscoe Boulevard, according to news reports from the scene.

Police closed Roscoe Boulevard between Hayvenhurst Avenue and Balboa Boulevard. The crash was not expected to delay Metrolink, Baek said.

Terrible. People really need to be more careful in these high-powered cars.

Indeed. People are too damn stupid these days.

We rented a C6 to drive down to my university for fun. My god that thing was fast. My dad would punch the gas and we'd be gone. I drove it for a bit on the highway, but was just cautious with it. When we got back home I took it out to drive around before we had to take it back to the rental company. I just gave it a bit of gas and the radar came flying off the windshield into the backseat, you could really feel the power in that car. I would be scared to drive a Z06.

I'm sure you guys have driven much faster cars, I'm young though.

My guess is 2 people in the car, and 2 on the street that were run over by the driver.

Yet another example of how people really need to learn to drive these high powered cars before going nutso on the street with them. This accident reminds me of the Viper owner that killed his teenage daughter while taking his car for a spin on Mulholland. It was his 2nd day of ownership.

The fastest car I've driven is the car I have now...I was really considering a CTS-V for a while but insurance basically was like "no fucking way man"

I agree with you completely, however, people need to be more careful in general. Any car on the road today has enough power to kill. Crash tests are done at 35-40mph but beyond 60 will usually result VERY badly.

I personally think that if someone wants to go on a big open road and put their life in danger, go right ahead. The problem is people like to do stupid things on the road and innocent people get killed.

I dunno, that would mean people were out walking by the railroad tracks in Van Nuys at midnight. That seems even stranger than 4 people in a Vette.

Walking in general, at night, in LA is odd. Although it's quite common in Irvine.

There must have been a serious disregard of life and law. Vette may be hairy at the limit but that limit is very deep.

They were drunk and driving home... (hence the 4 people in a vette)

I used to grab lunch over at the 95th aero squadron by the airport all the time and that is not an area you want to walk around at midnight.

*edit*

I've also said for years that people should have to "qualify" for a specific kind of license to drive specific kinds of cars. For public safety we do this with CDL licenses for large trucks, so why can't we do it with sports cars? This would keep jackass teenage drivers out of 335s/M3s/etc.

I could not agree with you more. I have been saying this for years. Look at the accidents involving high powered cars, that have been happening all over SoCal in the past year. A lot of those could have been prevented if the driver had better training.

saw this on the news. It was a woman driver who just lost control after hitting a curb/rail. 4 people were INSIDE the vette, 3 of whom were thrown out of the vehicle as it was rolling. The driver was pinned inside. Alcohol consumption is unknown until after the autopsy reports come in. It probably might have been drunk driving though although i wouldn't be surprised if she just lost control of her vette and not knowing the limits of her car. How or why there were 4 people inside the vette is beyond me

Tragic. Not everyone should be a sports car owner.
