Can someone take a picture of...
...the gas cap tether on the cap side?
I have a 2006 E90 and the cap fell off the tether today and I have no idea of how to put it back on. I searched the gas station to see if a part had come off, but, but I didn't see anything. The tether is fine on the door side, and it's easy to see how it attaches there, but I just don't see how it connects to the cap itself. Thanks! |

I popped mine out so you can get a better look at it; just press it into that hole in the center...unless the little nub came off your tether.

Thanks for the help!
Unfortunately, this means that indeed I have lost the... not sure what to call it... small plastic bolt in the middle of the tether. It wasn't on the ground at the gas station, so it's lost. Poop. Thanks anyways, I appreciate it! |

I checked RealOEM thinking you could get just the teather. Looks like you can only get a new fuel cap to solve the problem. Maybe go by the dealer and see if they can just get the teather.

You could try putting it back on with a small screw (depending on how much of the surface is left)...or...try some Epoxy Putty from Home Depot. Just cut off a small piece, mix it with your fingers (it's kind of like play-doh). Stuff it in the hole on the gas cap and press what's left of the tether into place. If there's enough left of the nub it might grab. Either way, if it doesn't work, you haven't done any damage.

Thanks again all -
I'll try a quick repair, but failing that I'll probably just detach the tether from the flap side. There's already a holder for the cap, the tether's just a nicety. Now, if I lose the cap, then I'll get the tether with the replacement cap! |

Do you really think you'll ever loose the cap anyway? I mean you open it and put it in the little green holder in the fuel flap. The teather is kind of redundant.
