VC21058: Vehicles Owned by Physicians

Vehicle Code 21058. A physician traveling in response to an emergency call shall be exempt from the provisions of Sections 22351 and 22352 if the vehicle so used by him displays an insigne approved by the department indicating that the vehicle is owned by a licensed physician. The provisions of this section do not relieve the driver of the vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons using the highway, nor protect the driver from the consequences of an arbitrary exercise of the privileges of this section.

So anyways, I get sent this decal for my car, but it's so darn red, ugly and obtrusive, I might as well stick some trucker girl mudflaps while I'm at it.

You don't have to put it on. How big is it?

I like the decal's representation and would be proud to wear it if I were in the medical field. In an emergency, this will obviously come in handy.

if it gets you out of tickets its probably a good thing to put on your car.

however i wouldnt feel comfortable putting it on a higher end car like a 911 or 7 series. it kinda seems like you are saying "look at me, you cant afford medical insurance but ive got a really kick ass car!"

I resized the JPG to make it the actual size. What you see in the photo IS the actual size of the decal.

I'm also not sure I like the idea of advertising I'm a physician, especially with a flashy car. It might get keyed more easily.

Very good point. I can see how others may view in disgust and jealousy.

I'm sure you will keep it with your car and use temporary adhesive in times of need.

The suction cup on window idea is a good one, but based on the image from his sig, it may not appear through his tint.

Maybe apply the decal on a clear licence plate cover and install when needed. A patrol officer will not care about the obstruction of the plate when they realize what is covering it.

It doesn't look too bad... honestly, I would stick a pair of pink fuzzy balls on my car if it would get me out of speeding tickets.

I have this for my car. So far, I've only been pulled over once (and they gave me a warning). But they STILL wanted to see something to prove I was a physician.

In general, doctors get very little respect in the NYC area.

Ditto.

There's flexible magnet material you can get that has a peel off paper and another that can be run through a printer. You could stick the MD sticker to some of either product and then just lay it on the trunk lid next to the license plate.

Use it as needed and don't worry about what others think.

That's not a bad idea you and SoYank have. I know what you're talking about. I used that magnetic material for autocrossing emblems and numbers. It can be cut with scissors. This is probably the best idea, even though it still looks a little ugly.

One other thought is that I might take the design, photoshop it so that it's all one color and have it cut into a flat silver/gray sticker.

I can see an officer giving you a written warning that requires you to present proof of the medical emergency you were responding to.

Just donate to the fallen highway patrol family fund and get that special license plate.

those are as ugly as the ones used for carpool lanes by hybrid vehicles!

i'd rather drive in stop n' go traffic than having those stickers on my vehicles.......

I tried to put this on my vehicle yesterday, but couldn't find any place on the car that looked unobtrusive. Then I did the unthinkable. I removed the E90post/official member decal hoping that the new sticker would look okay in that spot. It didn't. I even tried the passenger side front windshield location where the dealer stickers normally go. It still didn't look good. It made the car look cheap. Ugh!
