My W4 form came in mail and it was opened..
So today my W4 came and it was opened. It was inside a bag stating that it was damaged by USPS while they were sending it to my house. The bag looked like the picture below:
It took USPS 3 month to send the W4 form to me and it has all my personal information such as SSN, Address, full name, etc. Someone could of easily steal my identity. My question is, what should I do? Where have my W4 form been for 3 month? The postmark date is February 2010. And now it is End of May. |

Sucks.
Good luck, but there is probably nothing you can do... except start playing some good offense. Maybe sign up for one of those identity guard services/credit monitoring services. At least you weren't one of these people. Fucking USPS... what a bunch of worthless assholes. On the news in Chicago this morning was a story about another postal employee who literally left 6 of those big totes of mail at an apartment complex instead of delivering it. When questioned about it she stated that she was "overwhelmed by all the mail." Really? News flash: You are a letter carrier and you were overwhelmed by a bunch of envelopes? And the best part is that because of the unions she won't get fired.. YAY AMERICA! /rant |

Definitely put out a fraud alert and sign up for one of those protection plans.
Anyone know who is the best? BTW I had a similar experience. I left some documents and my wallet in my car at a gas station and my car was broken into. Smash and grab. Guy stole my Driver's License, my Military ID, my Gun Permit with finger prints, and military records... Credit cards, etc... I instantly cancelled everything and put out a fraud alert for Active Duty military. It's been 6 months with no hiccups, I pray. |

Don't jump the gun too quickly. While I cannot personally expound on the services lifelock offers, I know more than a few people who've had activity and attempts on their identity made that lifelock blocked. FWIW they were both Chase customers, and as a former customer of Chase I certainly won't recommend them, but all said and done lifelock is not just a sarcastic belittling response.

Their CEO had his identity stolen BUT he also plastered his SSN everywhere.

Run a free credit check first at www.annualcreditreport.com. If you find something fishy then start the dispute process and file the fraud alert on your ss number

Exactly, it's a sad truth but managing your identity is a part of life these days. Don't be stupid, and protect yourself when possible

I just signed up on quizzle.com and it provides a free credit report without an inquiry hitting your report. No SS# required. Read it on yahoo and many other notable credible sources have stamped their approval. Very helpful.

I just got done putting my credit cards and social security card in condoms too. And my wallet. Amazing how they stretch!

Nothing fishy at all. Can I only check through annualcreditreport.com once a year for free? Or is it free everytime? |

Not that I want to start the freecreditreport.com debate, but that service (which does cost a nominal monthly fee) will send you an email every time something changes on your acct. Credit inquiries/large charges/etc.... also alerts you when your credit score changes up or down.
Maybe just sign up for it and use it for 6 months or so... I'd say that if someone did steal your information, they'll want to use it soon to maximize any kind of damages that they can do. My dad uses lifelock and likes it. I personally can't vouch for it as I don't have any personal experience with it. Here is a link to the article about the CEOs ID being stolen 13 times. The article basically goes on to tell that him plastering his SSN all over the place taunted the hackers into doing it. The FTC then fined them and basically called it a scam. *shrug* Calling it a scam and it being a scam are obviously different things. |

I get mail all the time that has been damaged, last months Roundel showed up and it was only the front cover and a few pages inside the rest of it had been "lost". Which is weird since they usually come in a plastic wrapper. Called and complained and they didn't do anything, what a surprise....
