335i values

Had a while you wait brake fluid change done today, so had a mooch round the used and new cars as you do.

Shocked to see 2 x 335i m sports for a shade over £20k. Not the best colours/specs, but nevertheless performance value imho. Deosnt bode well for when I move mine on for sure.

Incidentally, and again, imho, 530gt interior and X6 interior are ace, X1 Interior is really poor, esp the material used for the seats, lows specced lci e90's starting to look their age. Z4 really smart.

So check Scothall Leeds out for cheap 335i

Spec and miles seem to be the deciding factors on value. That and miles. Couple on the autotrader at 15k but with mega miles!

If i had paid full list price for mine then i would have taken a 32% hit on depreciation when i sold it at 1 year old (11K miles) last month As it was i didn't do too badly but the first couple of years are hitting these cars.

Here is mine up for sale on BMW AUC:

I looked on glasses guide earlier in the week and was surprised at the range of trade prices.

£ 6.5k difference between top and bottom trade!

I still think I’m ok. I paid 24K from a main dealer for my fully spec’ed E90 with 3k on the clock about 15 months ago. It now has 15k on the clock and I think I would get 20-21K (07/57)

Looking at the comparable diesels though an they are holding their values very well. I think no matter what car you look at big petrol saloons do take a hit in depreciation the older they get. I bought a 10 month old R32 with 6k miles for 17k just over 12 months ago but the car new cost nearly thirty grand. It had halved it's value in less than a year! The 2litre tdi sport golf however sat next to it had lost just two grand in the same time starting at 20k an was now more than my R32. It's madness

I think the moral of this story is if you want a big engine petrol car - don't buy a new one

I don't agree with this fully, I think diesels lose a big part of their value as well when comparing say the 335i to 335d in value loss, but when it comes to higher mileages they hold their value a bit more. I see a lot of m sport diesel 335s going for low 20s and mid 20s on bmw's used approved which is typically 1/2 their value from new depending on extras. When you consider the diesel is £2k more than the petrol equilivent from new as well, then they really arnt looking any differernt in terms of price depreciation.

Pretty much any new car from bmw / merc etc is going to lose a hell of a lot of value after 10k miles, luckily there are still people willing to take the hit on depreciation from brand new otherwise people like me and others couldnt buy them for such a great price.

Don't know how accurate this thing is but the first year looks bad across the range.

There is only a £300 difference between them not £2k, when they are both auto's.

The 335d price includes auto (as it has to haved it), the 335i doesn't as there is a choice - so the price difference is not so big as it may first appear.

Nice tool, but not sure how accurate it is. Was looking at a lovely little e90LCI 335d last weekend but they wanted 31k for it - according to that it should be 19k.......that's a hell of a difference!

Either this september ( just after oil service but before I fork out for extended warranty and tax)

or Easter 2011 (when I'll chance at same time the mrs car goes back)

Or when someone makes a good offer!

I think that it probably gives you an optimistic estimate of how much you will get if you trade-in.

I 've noticed that it is miles out when I look at AUCs. When I bought my car the dealer had an identical car that was 2 years older with appropriate mileage for only £2k less than mine. Bet if you had been trading it in it would have been £12k less.

My Golf R32 also plummeted in value - bought for £22,500 (5,500 miles), sold a year and 12k miles later for £17,000 - ouch.

My d is probably worth a quid now (56 reg, 28k miles) but I'm keeping it forever... ;-)
