Solid state drives are getting more mainstream, mostly in laptops or gaming/high performance PCs. Their price point is still a bit high and not as much space as a platter drive, but they are getting there.

SSDs are alive and well. Price is dropping daily. Check out the new OCZ Vertex LE. I have been buying Intel X25s until this SSD came out.
Just finished my latest machine: Intel i7 980X Intel DXS58SO Main board 8 GB DDR3 Two 50GB OCZ Vertex LE in Raid 0 Array 2TB WD Black Nvidia GTX 480 Video Card Win 7 64bit This machine screams - boots in about 19 seconds and initial Passmark overall scores of 3452. Overclocking is next. I build a new machine every 6 months or so - cars and computers are my passion.
