BMS Powerbox, actual HP gains?

Over in the thread "Gintani Tune- Who's done it?" [ http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=405349 ] A couple people were saying that they believe there is no horsepower gain from the BMS even though on the 3 series, they post results of about 5 horses and on the 330's about 10.

Any thoughts? Is there really no effective gains? Did they botch the dyno's? Mike from N54 tuning, any comments? Has there ever been an actual dyno?

I dynoed before and after and noticed a slight mid range decrease. Dyno sheets are posted on the NA thread somewhere.

Depends on the dyno, fuel, conditions, etc, and before after testing has to be done on the same day to rule out weather variances, etc. But 5-8hp gains are the average. More would be nice but there is only so much you can do with the N52 motor. A little more fuel and a little more timing do help.

+1
Agreed. It also depends on what kinda modifications have you done to a car, but on a complete stock car there is a big difference from Map 0, and Map 3.

Hey Mike I need a N52 air filter! Drop me a pm with your number.

Not true. MANY German companies get 40hp out of a stock 128i engine...N52

More for a 125i.

I had mine dyno'd personally, back to back to back (8 runs total), and after using the best run from map 0 and the best run from map 3, showed about 10hp in the midrange with 9 ft lbs of torque. the gain tapered down at the top end, but didn't lose any power over stock.

this was on a completely stock 325i with steptronic. Not mind blowing, but not bad either. even if I didn't gain anything, it's worth it just for the throttle remap imo.

I had mine in for a couple of weeks. I think it makes a small difference on map 3, but personally I don't think it's enough to risk it when the car is still under warranty. So I took it out again and sold it.

how is it going to risk your warranty? my 07 under extended warranty went in for a warranty claim and my CA said nothing. or may be he found nothing.

Any tuning/mods can potentially void your warranty. There are plenty of threads on this topic in this forum already, so

I am almost positive I had gains with mine. I went off the line with my friend's tracked out e36 328 and I always lost to him off the line and while we were running. Now, with the pbx, I beat him in both aspects. no official dyno to prove any of this... but I think it helps.

I had a afe, then scoops, then got the pbx, then exhaust so now I am really walking away from him. we did these tests from the line as I said, and also from about 60-120.
