My new E92 arrived (pics and review included)

I just received my e92 last saturday (just in time for xmas) with 9 miles on it. Since then I've put over 400 miles on it and I have to say I'm just as impressed with the features of the car as I am with the engine.

Here's what I got:
Black on black with gray poplar trim
Manual
Navigation
Comfort access
Park distance control
Sport package

The really great features that may not be talked about as much:
  • No rollback - Even with manual transmission this kicks in on hills to prevent me from rolling back. Sorta jarring the first time when I was compensating for the hill and ended up taking off.
  • Defrost - I know this sounds stupid and is a really basic feature, but the defrost is amazing. It's so fast to de-fog. and the heat kicks in very quickly too for some reason
  • Cd player plays Mp3 cds - It could use a nice shuffle all function (I could only find a shuffled within directory, or put all my songs in the root directory) but otherwise it's really nice.
  • Comfort Access setup - there really is none. It just works. I had read these forums thinking it was going to be a pain in the ass to figure out.
  • NAV/iDrive - This is really straightforward and useful. Like others have said, it's missing a way to search for a name of a location but otherwise it's really really nice. IDrive is very straightforward, not complicated at all, very intuitive, i love the haptic feedback or whatever it's called. Also, the integration of real time traffic is really useful.
  • Voice Command - The recognition is really top notch. I've used computer software that is much worse, and those stupid phone services are horrible, but this really recognizes your commands. It also gives you the ability to list all the available options (say "Options") so you don't have to go and memorize all of the commands, though I probably will anyway to get all of the shortcuts.
  • Luxury - this car isn't just power. It drives and feels very solid and while it's no 7 series, I wouldn't even compare it to the is350 and the g35. BMW does a really good job with all the bells and whistles.
  • 6th gear - I find myself in 6th a lot, not just because I end up cruising at high speeds, but because it also has the acceleration that I won't need to downshift in order to get. Just a small tap on gas in 6th will launch me forward passed other cars struggling on a hill. It's great.
  • Park Distance Control in combination with Nav - Because you have a display, the PDC does more than just beep at you. It gives you a little preview of the area behind you and starts shading in areas that are occupied with different colors, showing you what you might be close to. This is just as useful as those cameras that display objects behind you.

Bear in mind, I've never owned a car of this calibur before but when I park it, I walk away backwards just staring at it until I can't see it anymore.

I also want to thank the forums for all the help, not only did I find a great deal with a local dealer from someone on this forum, but I also learned a lot and think it's a really great resource for current and prospective owners.

beautiful car. Yours is loaded, too.

Bingo! I was hoping to catch a glimpse of your start button. It's tilted to the left just like mine, so that's normal. The other 2 coupes I sat in were like that, but not the sedans.

My hunch is it has to do with the steering wheel, they must have wanted it angled ever so slightly towards the driver as there are various tilt/telescope options.

I'm with you--never owned a car of this level and everytime I get in it I'm impressed by the level of fit/finish and solidity. Hey, make sure they give you the carpeted mats--mine were backordered when I p/u my car.

Great color choice! Nice photos! By chance did you get the black leatherette? Your seats look nice and crisp whereas all of the black leather seats I've seen tend to look a little more wrinkled. I really like that nice, tight look of your sport seats. If those happen to be leatherette, could you post us a few more pictures of your seats and doors? I don't think I've seen too many photos on the forum of the black leatherette sports interior?

Thanks, congratulations and welcome to the forum!

pretty sure that's leatherette. besides not looking like the leather in my car, there's no stitching on the door.

Yup, zeroday is right in that it's leatherette.

I'll try to take some more pictures soon but it's been rainy here so that might delay things.

Luxury? really? I dont find the interior of the 3 to be luxurious... more like sporty. I mean if you compare it to the G35 (which I also drive on weekends) its more luxurious, but compared to an IS350.. really? o.o

I think the purpose of the 3 was more sport. less luxury. shrug. other than that, I completely agree with you. thats why I'm gonna fill out an order for the 335i coupe myself =D good choice my friend.
