Anyone taken the LSATS recently?

I'm starting my preparation / research regarding LSAT's and law schools as i'll be graduating next year.
Anyone taken any preparatory courses and had good results with them?
Any recommendations that I should know of?

I'm a 4.0 GPA student majoring in Accounting at Rutgers University and shouldn't have too much of a problem with getting into good law schools if my LSAT's are pretty good...

I'm considering the following Law Schools:

NYU, Columbia, Fordham, Rutgers. Basically schools in the tri-state area for me. Any other recommendations?

Thanks in Advance guys.

damn man nice stats...

im also account major atm but thinking about dropping to marketing.... i know this is the easy way out and i want to stick with accounting but my laziness is telling me to take the easy route and go marketing...

damn i fail atm. it the core accounting classes i don't want to take like taxation, advanced accounting, etc...

all the best though on your ventures.

actually to be real honest i guess its because i don't want to study , yea palm face for saying that. since highschool, with the exception for the sat,i just go to class take notes never study for exams and i norm average a b or b+ from just being in class and listening.

but in my accounting classes i get c & c+s. i know if i put alittle study time i can get the b & b+s. i need to get over my laziness for sure...

Good luck, seems like you'll do fine on your LSATs from your 4.0..

a lot of people take blueprint as a prep course. when i took the lsat, blueprint hadnt been established yet so i took testmasters but blueprint is pretty good. i dont know if they have it on the east coast but its pretty popular here in cali.

make sure you negotiate your scholarships. also consider where you are going to practice or take the bar since some states test on their law, i.e. the california bar tested on california distinctions so that might be something you consider

i graduated undergrad in 3 yrs and then went to law school after, just took the bar exam in july all before 25! youll probably be in the same boat too =)

I took the LSAT twice, once in my 4th year of uni and once last year when I actually applied for law school, and I scored really well after taking the Kaplan course a few months before I wrote the LSAT. A big thing with it and the other standardized tests is that your confidence and ability to work under less than ideal conditions. So do what you need to do to get prepared! The Kaplan course taught me how to solve the problems much more efficiently. Good luck with your applications!

My major dilemma right now is I want to take either a blueprint, testmasters or a powerscore course. I am graduating Spring 2012, and most law schools want LSAT scores in by December 2011 for Fall 2012 Admission. I'm thinking about taking the Lsat in October 2011, and taking a course prior to that and just start studying now. My only concern is if I don't do as well as I want I want the ability to take it again. I'm thinking I should take it in either February 2011 or June 2011 for the first time WITHOUT a course. It really wouldn't be practical for me to take a course prior to this though because I take 6 classes a semester, work and run 2 organizations.

Should I just take the February 2011 LSAT, by studying over Winter break, and depending on how I do take the preparatory course and then take the LSAT in October?

The December LSAT was too close to my final exams when I did it, so the October one it worked much better for me. Does your school have a pre-law society? Ours did, and we arranged a group buy on the test prep materials and course, and the school gave up a prof 2 nights a week for a month to prep us for the test.

I recently took the June LSAT without taking a course first, and I don't recommend that. I was not happy with my score or my preparation, and I will have to take it again in October.

In Canada we are lucky, there are still a few good schools that don't require the LSAT if you haven't written, I unfortunately only figured that out after I wrote the damn test!

I want to get into Corporate or Business law. I took a business law class in college and loved it.
I've decided on studying starting this winter break / all Summer long and taking the october LSAT. I'd rather take it once and know i gave it my all.

Good luck w/the LSATs, you shouldn't have a problem scoring high + law schls generally give more weight to the GPA. By the time you grad, this grim corp. law/deal environment should get better.

Have/will you be taking the CPA as well?

The weight of the LSAT varies from school to school, you can get the weight grid from the LSAC. If all else fails you can apply to UMAINE, some Canadian kids apply there cause they don't weight the LSAT high (they used to back in 2007).

I took mine about 2 years ago. Just prepare for them, get a good nights sleep, eat a good breakfast and get there early. Can't go wrong if you do this.

Oh, and if you get a scholarship somewhere, take it. Bills rack up quickly.

Right now the schools I'm thinking of applying to once i take the LSATS are:
1. NYU (DREAM SCHOOL), very expensive and If I get in the 160's(what I anticipate to get, it will still be tough to get into).
2. Fordham ( If i get in the 160's i should be able to get into)
3. Brooklyn Law school - definite in.
4. SUNY
5. Buffalo
6. Rutgers Newark Law School- probalby my last option
7. Seton Hall Law school...

Most of these schools should give me a scholarship excluding NYU...

Yes, the weight does vary from school to school (e.g. Georgetown can get in w/high LSATs/rel. low GPA vs. Boalt high GPA/low LSAT isn't death). Either way, you shouldn't have too much trouble scoring well on the LSATs if your 4.0 is any indication.

Curious on your selections for #2+. I've heard good arguments for both sides (being top 15% in a T2 w/scholarship vs. top X% at a T14/T1 with little/no scholarship $). Is the scholarship $ potential driving your choices for the others?
