335is sunroof delete
I ordered my 335is last week but I am currently trying to get the sun roof deleted to save weight, get more headroom and increase body integrity and aerodynamics. No one seems to know for sure if this delete is doable. But since my car won't be produced until the BMW factory returns from vacation in September, hopefully I will have a good chance. Anyone here take delivery of a 335is without sun roof?

Your reasons for getting rid of the sunroof are interesting, but unnecessary, except maybe for headroom.

You won't notice that big of a difference with or without the sunroof... keep it and enjoy it.
Unless you are a race team there's no point going through the hassle to delete it now.

You live in nola and use yours? It's hot as shit down here. Nice in March and November only. Sun blazing down all the time...no thanks. But at least we don't need heated seats, ix, or know what to do with a snow shovel

I'd really dislike my car without a sunroof. I got a loaner without one, and I felt almost claustrophobic. Seriously...not worth the hassle.

Not really, if you look at E46 M3s or E30 cars with the sunroof delete option they are always worth more. I understand what the OP is talking about, sunroofs are completely useless and are just another failure point on the car. I wish BMW would make more vehicles with no sunroofs and cloth interiors like they do in Europe. At least they are starting to make sunroofs optional.

Hopefully, The ZDM option works for you. I can't believe how many people gave you crap for not wanting one. It's your car, you should get it the way you want it, if you can.

I would take a no sunroof car over one with sunroof in a hearbeat. Sunroof is a good idea but usless in the real world for me. Can't use it when it's hot or cold or driving on the freeway. I haven't open my sunroof in over a year. I wish I didn't have one. Quote:

I like having one. Sometimes my interior needs some light from above and sometimes I need a bit more airflow or a feeling of more open-ness. you're never going to sit there thinking that the last apex could have been taken faster if it weren't for that pesky frame flex. Headroom is your only valid real world argument.

I vote for keeping the sunroof. I'd hate to have a car w/o a sunroof.

Get in your car on a nice 100 degree day. Open the sunroof and put the A/C on Max. You will be surprised how much faster the car cools down!

Don't get crazy, premium sound and air con are a must for me unless I'm building a track car. But leather is crap, I don't see the point for seating material that requires maintenance, is hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and costs extra. Instead of leatherette which I really don't like they should offer cloth interiors. And the sunroof is just one more item to fail and cost money in the future. I never even open the sunshade on mine and I wish BMW built the car without it. But it is what it is, my sunroof should last forever because I never use it and my leather looks like brand new because I keep it conditioned even though I don't like either.

cloth is an inferior material. It doesn't really belong in even the 3 series unless you're building a track car. Sure it wears down, but that goes for everything. Knock on wood, but how many of you actually had a moonroof failure? and I'm not talking about the interior shade that used to come off the tracks frequently enough on the E46s. No car in my family has ever had an actual moonroof/sunroof malfunction.
More so than cloth being lighter, (marginally) the bigger benefit to cloth seats is that they are made to be cheaper in general and thus have no power functions which is where the real weight savings is. All I know is that I'm not into teaching idiots how to manually pull the seat forward so people can sit in the back. I prefer a touch of comfort layered over the sportiness of these cars. |
