Quick QT - Should my center console lid be spring loaded?
...on an 07 E90 335i if that makes any difference. Every loaner I've had has it spring loaded (ie if you "unclick" it, it will spring upwards) but they were all LCI. The one on my car isn't but it's pre-LCI. Just compiling a small list of things to get check before my original warranty expires at the end of the year.
Thanks, Brian |

you can tell them about seeing it on a loaner. maybe they'll give you a spring loaded one. If you ask them about it.
I have an 09 E90 and mine is spring loaded, my sister has an 07 e90 and hers isnt. So you'd be right that the PreLCI's dont have a spring loaded center console compartment. HOWEVER. I dont know if 08s have it or not. because remember in 08 they changed the gong sound, and added LED liscence plate lights. I'm not sure what else they changed

I have an 08 and mine is spring loaded. My buddies 07 is not. Looks like it was a minor tweak from his 5/2007 build to my 2/2008 build.

Hmm ok it seems like it would be an odd part to break - I guess all is well, but I'll probably just ask about getting it anyway. My build date is pretty early, 11/06

I think only the 06-07 models were not spring loaded. I've had the spring loaded consoles in loaners too and honestly I prefer not having it.

I go back and forth actually, I like not having it sometimes because I can stick my phone charger into the center bin and not have it fly open but it is a pain sometimes not having it spring loaded. Best of both worlds for me would probably be to have spring loaded and just notch my lid gasket with my dremel so it could click closed

Any way to purchase the spring to allow the console lid to pop open for the 2007's that don't have this feature? I had a 2011 328 loaner the other day, took off the rear vents to check for the spring and it was def there and not on my 2007 335i. I just figured when i dropped off the loaner to get my car, I'd order the spring from the parts department for a few bucks, they can't order it, doesn't show up as a part. Any ideas? Other than stealing one from a loaner....

It hooks around the 2 arms on the console lid, and attaches to the notch around where it is pointing at "#3". Any ideas? Or anyone not like the fact their's is spring loaded and wants to remove it?

No spring here 07/07 production. Im more interested in this "pre-warranty expiration list" you are compiling. Please share.

I have gray interior and the part# is 51 16 9 133 805 but looks like a different part# depending on the color interior
looks like you have to replace the whole lid

Okay, does anyone else see a problem with disassembling someone else's property? Especially, when the enitity is kind enough to loan you a brand new vehicle for free?
Lol! More evidence why you should never consider buying a loaner! How would you feel if you loaned your bimmer to a buddy and he had the nerve to remove the rear vents without your authorization? Too funny! [QUOTE=cormeister616;9636640]I had a 2011 328 loaner the other day, took off the rear vents to check for the spring and it was def there and not on my 2007 335i. |

No problem at all. If you return the car at the very last minute, they won't bother to inspect it until the following evening, and they'll think the next customer dismantled the car and took the parts, and simply bill their credit card. There's a course in ethical hacking, so I think there can also be such a thing as ethical stealing from the loaner car. And we wonder why the Susan Komen Ultimate Drive no longer exists... |

I guess that's similar to the 20 mile inspection the dealer just did with my car after they recalled the fuel pump. Really didn't think that was necessary, they obv didn't realize I track the milage.. Oh well Back to the spring tho, looked like it was easily removable, surprising you can't order it separate. No big deal I guess |
