Anyone NOT use their E90 as a daily driver?
Hi all,
I've been considering an E90 or more likely an F30 in two years. I have a respectable daily driver, '06 Accord (loaded), that gets great gas mileage. I have no-fun commute, often 45 minutes in heavy traffic on the way home. I can't imagine using a new BMW for this beating, especially with the risks of a fender-bender. So are any of you guys keeping a daily driver around for commuting? Obviously I'd want to drive a BMW as much as possible, but a friend thought I was nuts for considering keeping two cars. I know some of the M3 guys keep a DD, but I'm curious about non-M drivers. |

I keep a beater as a daily driver and save my good car for special occaisions.
The "beater" is my 335i. Seriously, the 3 Series is a nice car but it in not exactly a Bugatti Atlantic Coupe. CA

You should make it a poll. It would be interesting.
I use mine as a DD. |

My 335i sits in my garage most of the time. I only drive it out for short errands, dates, every blue moon for college, and sometimes when I meet friends in the richer part of town. My 2001 525i with 130k serves as my DD/beater

Why are we answering this question? He is two years away from driving one and has to point out that his accord is loaded. Not trying to hate, but get a life.

To the OP - I use mine as a daily driver. The car is meant to be driven, and if you can't enjoy the money you've put into it, what's the point of getting one. Sometimes I'll leave it in the garage and take my mom's car to run some errands...particularly anything that involves parking lots with shopping carts or anything like mountainbiking or playing sports that involve getting dirty. |

I dont. I have an old 120k+ mile RL as a DD.
To some people, the 335 is a beater. One day, it'll be my kind of beater. In the meantime, it's a pretty well modified go fast machine. I dont need loud exhaust, hard suspension, and 400 to the wheels everywhere I go. The Honda (acura) starts everytime, is quiet, comfortable, loves rain, and is 0 maintenance. I'm going for 200k

i live in the city, so my feet, and my bicycle are my daily drivers. The e91 gets used only when longer distances, or when the weather is bad.

Once you have an E90 you will never want to drive your Honda again. Accord's are good reliable cars and 3 series BMW's are excellent cars

I'd rather be stuck in traffic in a BMW with quality leather seats and nice interior than a beater.
If you wait for the F30 it will almost certainly have stop-and-go active cruise control. Set the cruise and let the car do the work. |

I drive my 1998 Nissan daily, it's way more reliable. It just had another repair, maybe the 4th one in its 12 1/2 year life. It was a big one. A $44 clutch hose, finally got rid of that leak. We replaced the slave as well while we were doing the hose, it set me back another $39 (got it on amazon).

I don't.
I telecommute. I use the BMW for errands like trips to the nursery to buy bags of cow manure to put on the gardens, trips to the post office and UPS and to take the dog to the vet.

I plan on getting a 4x4 beater but just for winter driving since my e90 sucks in snow. Of course I could get winter tires, but what good would that do with a storm like last winter on the east coast.
