New to BMWs and this forum....

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a 2006 330xi, and I have come across this site in hopes to gain/learn as much as I can about BMWs.

Details of the car:

Its black on black with a 6 spd manual trans. Includes the sport, premium, and cold weather pkgs... So far I love the car.

You got one of the best models in my opinnion

The 330 produced(or sold) only in 06 in the US gives you some power without
the Turbo problems
Things you might want to change RFT's to normal tires do a search on it on this board.

Welcome. You got all the right options for your 330...specifically the sport package and 6spd. Lots of good info on here, mostly good peoples and of course a few elitist bozos. As for the RFTs...Depending on what came on the car I personally would sticking with oem tires. I changed from Potenza RE050 RFTs to the very highly rated and well reviewed Hankook Ventus...the Potenza RFTs were louder and harsher, but performed much better.

I have brand new ContiProContacts on it right now... My plan is to keep that setup for the winter and then buy some 162s for a summer setup...

nice choice. glad to see manual transmission was chosen. i would have picked a stick shift if my parents didnt have to drive my car some times.

oh, and let the modding begin. I hvn't been able to stop since I've gotten my car.

Do you have the zhp package? I had that on an 03 330i and an 05 330ci with the zhp package and i LOVED those cars. Smooth and balanced. I kinda wish my stock 335i handled like those babies.

Not sure what the nomenclature is, but it has the sport, premium, and cold weather packages...

It was a performance package on the late e46s to help compete with the g35 until the new e90 and e92s came out. It has an M like body package and and M accessories on the interior. For example, the steering wheel and shifter will have a M log on it and your roof lining will be black, not white. Among other things. Just a nice little package that only cost an extra $4k . . .

I am an idiot, for some reason I was thinking the 06 was the last year of the e46. You're in a e90. I was kinda confused why you hoped on this forum, but this makes more sense. I am going to go back to making mistakes doing my job instead of here.

I have the same model except...

...I have the automatic and didn't get the sport package. I do have the comfort access, winter package, along with navigation and i-drive of course. I got the automatic because of the type of driving I do for my job. It's just not fun sitting in traffic with stick. I do have a Triumph TR8 that's a 5 speed manual, so I get my gear-banging in it.

I have 75K on the odometer and bought it new. I'm on my third set of run-flats (they're not my favorites) but have had very few problems with it, although my comfort access is acting up (see my thread from earlier today).

The people here helped me when my wipers went kaput. It was a simple fix with a new relay, a part that cost me about $13.00 and took about 1 minute to pop in, so I'm loving this site.

Good luck to you!

Congratulation - I have a car of the same year with same options, and I love it too. Very smooth engine. Welcome to the forum.

Congrats! Got an '06 as well. If you are planning on modding your car, I suggest you get yourself some Black Lines and a Performance grill. Which black did you get? Jet Black or Sapphire Metallic Black? Both are a pain to maintain, but be warned that JB does not age really well if not taken care of.

First and foremost congrats on the purchase!

Don't 162s come on the 330 with ZSP? My uncle has them, but he's not an xi, did xi's get a different wheel?

Either way if you like the 162s also check out the 189s - IMO they are the best out of the ZSP wheels (non M-tech) and look great on E90s

I think 330xi with ZSP come with 159s. Not sure staggered setups work well on all wheel drive.

You're kinda right...they still made the e46 coupe and convertible, just not the sedan

Welcome to the site. I am new as well. I just bought my 330xi in June and I have sport and premium packages. It is an auto but still a great car. I run the 162's and have found that they are fine to run the staggered set up with awd as the previous owner ran them with no problems since new. I am going to switch the RFTs to a non RFT and get the European spare tire kit which I found on this site. Make sure you chat with guys in your area, they can help you with a lot of local and immediate issues when needed. Enjoy!
